I don’t believe there was ever a reason given, I assumed Blizzard got tired of people pointing out that a lot of the good art that came out of the community (which would then get featured on the basis of being good art) was done by people who were also making a name for themselves doing… cruder art.
Also possible they just wanted a different approach, since that’s also around the time they started doing those student art contests I believe.
They recently had their yearly student art competition.
Or Google Bo Chen, he’s top dog illustrator at Riot now, but he’s done some cool Warcraft stuff too.
Didn’t they go hard on the AI crap?
The artists I follow don’t seem to use AI but there are lots of AI “artist” accounts that have a lot of art that almost looks good until you notice the 7 fingers on each hand or something

I think they are trying to attract new talent, freshly graduated art students etc. Just guessing.
i dunno the ai is getting harder to notice these days. someone can just ai there way in these things. the hands are getting better but sometimes you can point an error in the eyes (hint hint) i just feel bad for people who do commissions im sure that avenue is dying pretty fast.

I think this was the issue to. While I don’t care what artists do I can see how googling an artists pen name and getting adult furry art wouldn’t fly from a pr place.
They have had the yearly student art contest now for well over a decade. They used to have other art contests as well though. Xmas card design, Halloween pumpkin carving, etc. They also used to post player submitted screenshots as a screenshot of the day.
Not sure if there is just not a lot of interest in it anymore from players, or if they have other reasons they don’t do it.
