Commuity, why does nobody speak to each other?

Have at Garrison, on my Hunter who is my main AH character

That’s your server, most like. A lot of servers do not have healthy populations, specifically for one faction or the other.

I’m not even looking at check most of the time. If I see a question I can answer, I generally will assuming I’m not killing something, running away from something, flying out of the zone, logging off, etc

Also, I’ll speak for my part as a ā€œnon-socialā€ player; I only talk to people in my pug M+ groups or to my community, and most of that is in Discord.

Funny!

Maybe i’ll change servers and you can have 2 people chatting at least and it might seem less creepy or maybe more creepy but conversation is conversation and damn it, i’ll take it !

Guess it is a sign of the times. There are still plenty of helpful people out there.

I always try my best to help other players out with questions are even running them through some content

Its not that I won’t answer questions, its that no one ever asks questions. not on my server anyway.

No time to be friendly.

For 5k gold I’ll answer your question OP. This is how things work now.

First of all, post here a bit and see how this community responds.
That’ll speak volumes to your question, OP.
In game, /Trade and /General chat are either racist, sexist, antagonistic insults, screaming profanity for attention, or ads for selling carries to players.
No idea why you’d even attempt to engage in those channels at this point.

ā€˜You want community, join a guild’ is the usual refrain though from the people who usually take the time to actually reply, but coming from a perspective closer to your own, it’s hardly that simple or appetizing anymore.

The lazy model nowadays for Guild Community is ā€˜join our discord’. As in, be logged into our chat channel 24/7, in the game, out, at home and on your phone, and eventually you’ll be a part of our group.

ā€œCome on, get in the chat channel.ā€
ā€˜Are we playing?’
ā€œNo, I’m just yelling at my kids and eating food loudly into my mic while surfing Reddit.ā€

Blizzard’s stewardship of this game hasn’t been what it used to be in those intervening 7 years you were gone. Sorry to have to tell you.

Hey OP, I have had the same experience as you; I definitely dislike it and I can only speculate as to why the state of communication is as it is.

I am a social guy (both in-game and out) so it’s very disconcerting to me to be met with total silence in dungeons, or in the game when I am putting myself out there. TBH, it actively turns me off WoW. Conventional wisdom suggest ā€œFind a guild!ā€. But those are so hard to find nowadays too. I am on Area 52, a populous Horde server, and social guilds are impossible to find.

Everything is about your performance, or strictly about the various sub-activities in the game. It’s no longer about socializing and having fun against the backdrops of cool zones, raids, dungeons or BGs - it’s now about doing mythics and raids, with the social interactions being the means to an end.

Not sure if this is a WoW problem, or a modern-gaming problem. But I sure am not a fan. The irony is that I AM performance driven. I don’t need or want to ride coat-tails; I want to do reasonably well in the game, and overcome challenges with like-minded, fun, nice, chill people.

But this does not seem to exist anymore.

FWIW, I try now to be very specific, direct and consummate in my own communication and in doing so, I hope I can be the change I so wish for. For instance, if I have a question for General, or Trade, I’ll be very specific as to what I need and end with a ā€œPSTā€ or ā€œPlease whisper me if you have any infoā€ type statement. That has yielded some very fulfilling results and interactions that have ended with, ā€œfeel free to add me to your FL and lemme know if you have more questions; we can has it out a discordā€. YMMV but I hope the best.

If I’m logged on and you play on my server you will know it. I am constantly chatting or spouting off some info or nonsense.

I do not mean to be this way but frankly it’s my only social outlet, as sad as that is.

I enjoy helping other players, I really mean that, gives me some justification for playing as much as I have I guess.

That said I have a long friends list of grayed out names, only one left playing and she is not a talker at all.

So no more in game friends and nobody left on btag either, leaves me talking to general chat like everybody is my friend.

maybe your server just died

The only time I’m in a group anymore if LFD and no one ever says anything in LFD unless they are angry. Only took a few ā€œShut up and healā€ messages to get me to go silent.
