Over the years there have been many shared cities… Why is it the horde cannot understand the alliance and vice versa… but the horde can understand Jaina and Anduin in cut scenes and vice versa?
With cross faction play now a thing, not understanding each other in shared cities really makes no sense maybe even in open world content. I am not saying combine trade, general chats etc. How about maybe /s and /y chat in general cities and open world?

Because back then the game was played by immature kids so Blizz had to make sure the we don’t insult each other constantly.
Now that the game is played by balding neck beards and soccer moms and I feel like we should be able to communicate.
It’s arguably still played by immature kids.
They just happen to be a bit longer in the tooth.
well that did happen when forsaken was in early days they could speak common and set up ambushes to kill players
in the Beta, the undead player characters spoke Common (besides Orcish) and thus could communicate with Alliance characters. This led to a huge amount of vitriol and bile that was spewed both ways, so this functionality was removed and Gutterspeak was introduced.
Pandaren can talk to each other cross faction. Velfs and Belfs can talk to each other cross faction. Demon Hunters can talk to each other cross faction. There’s potions to allow us to talk to each other cross faction.
There’s no reason to have a base, Common language barrier any longer.
