One awesome thing about Diablo 3 is the common cache for all of your characters. When is WoW going to adopt this? A common cache for all your chars on the same realm/faction. It’s annoying having to mail mats back and forth between your own characters, and trying to keep tabs on how much each one has.
[1] How big is the common cache? How many slots? Does Diablo 3’s “common cache” have thousands of slots? If not, I like the WoW method better.
I tried ESO for a few months. My 8 characters had 1 common bank. But it only had 50 slots. I ended up having 2 accounts JUST so I could mail things to myself JUST so I had enough storage.
If it has enough slots, it is a good idea.
[2] 15 years ago, the WoW creators made a global design decision, choosing between 2 models (based on other MMOs and their experience):
(A) Your 10 characters are like 10 fingers of 1 player, sharing everything
(B) Your 10 characters are 10 independent players, who are friends.
They chose model (B) back in 2004, and have only made a few exceptions to it in 15 years. Model (B) worked well for this game. So Blizzdevs would have to make another exception to create this “common cache”. Maybe they should. I’m just pointing out that it is an exception.
There could be a common cache tab in the bank, just like they have a reagent tab, so instead of in lieu of, it would be in addition to. You’d only share items used by other characters. Some examples:
-Ore used by Engineering, BS, and JC
-Herbs used by Alchemy and Inscription
Same size as reagent tab would be great.
There are already add-ons that track supplies across alts and supposedly make transferring and storing goods easier.
You also already have the option of creating your own guild for sharing materials amongst alts without constant character hopping.
Track of is nice, but it’s still a hassle mailing all the time. Private guild for alts is not an option if you want your alt in a regular guild. Also it’s slow transferring items to/from a guild vault, takes a second or 2 per item. A common cache would be fast because you could only have 1 char on at a time accessing it.
Would be more convenient to be just another tabs like the reagent tab. That’s OK for void storage as it isn’t used often.
This is 15 year old known request, for Wow.
Variations are common bank, common void storage, etc.
So they’ve known people want it, they just are not doing it.
Well, it’s about time then. It used to take an hour to transfer stuff between your characters, but they improved it so now it’s instant.
