I’m coming back after a long break and have a couple questions:
Is there anything good to buy in the new xpac with pet charms? I have bout 50k worth. Any new items or new pets on the horizon? I didn’t see anything on wowhead but hopefully someone has heard something that is coming out, maybe with a new patch.
Have they fixed pvp pet battles? I logged on and played a number of pet battles back to back against (DIFFERENT!!) teams, which, I cannot recollect happening since they instituted pet battlegroups years ago. Have they finally fixed it or did I just get incredibly lucky?
I loved pet battles in the old xpacs and it’s probably the thing that has kept a ultra-casual like me coming back. Are they keeping it up or are they letting it rot? Say, if I was just playing wow to do pet stuff, is it worth it to buy the xpac?
Thanks all.
There’s only 5 pets you can buy for Charms in TWW, 50 charms each. After that it’s some of the new currencies to buy pets, not pet specific ones, and often a pre-req like renown.
So far just 6 or 7 pet trainers to battle. Timing on them is erratic unlike the dailies in most of DF. There doesn’t seem to have been much effort to make them challenging, guess devs just too busy trying to make the new TWW work. These pet battles drop same sorta rewards we saw in DF, including the pet charms that won’t buy much in TWW.
Early days of DF there was just one pet WQ up each day. After a few months – guess devs finally had time to work on something other than fixes – we got the 1 pet WQ per zone we see now. Hopeful something like this happens in TWW.
Chrummie has answered your first question very well.
PvP? No, they have decidedly NOT fixed PvP pet battles. Not a thing, You may have got lucky, or perhaps your battlegroup has some people with a burst of enthusiasm. Or maybe they changed the battlegroups, and yours is now more lively?
Are they keeping it up? I would say they did the minimum to keep it up for TWW launch. And there are plenty of new pets. And some old ones will be returning for the 20th Anniversary patch. As Chrummie says, we might have some hope that they will add in some content with future patches, as they did in DF.
So are pet charms kindof worthless now? I mean, with nothing to buy it kind of defuses the motivation to continue to do fights when the best reward possible is the charms. Most people who have been battling for a while have huge stockpiles of stones and what not, so that’s not an option either-- certainly not a motivation to seek the charms.
Well the fights, with the right teams of course, are quick and easy way to get XP.
As far as charms go, lot of pet collectors haven’t gotten all the earlier pets that cost charms. And the charms buy leveling and rare-converting stones too. Might even decide to finally get that 10,000 charm Baubleworm.
AH still has a fairly steady trade in charm pets though prices do seem to be slowly dropping.
Here’s the thing, though: in SL and DF, a lot of people bought the new pets like drunken sailors with the stockpiles they had accumulated. The devs don’t like that. When they changed the Charms back in BfA, they said they didn’t like that, and changing the currency was their way of addressing it.
That went over like a lead balloon. NOBODY was happy about it, and the way the devs implemented it really got a lot of people mad.
They won’t do that again.
We had a few high-Charm buys in DF, but again many snapped them up right at the start.
I suspect that avoiding high-Charm pets at the start of TWW is their way of addressing it now.
But I’m sure they will dribble in some Charm sinks later.
Do you have some Charm pets from SL and DF to make up? That could eat up 20-25K of your stockpile pretty quick, leaving you less to complain about!
lol! Fair enough. But I was never interested in the baubleworm (effect is underwhelming) and Miloh and Scout are not fantastic battle pets. I’ll hunker down and hope for a better charm sink next patch.
They keep dumping truckloads of pets on us that are irrelevant for battling, something like 200 per expansion, and among those, maybe 3 or 4 that you might ever use.
They seem to have no idea what to do about battling. Even PvE.
Which is bad. And based on their ignorant last adjustments to abilities, I am genuinely afraid that someone in there will get the delusion that they do know what to do about battling, and try to implement something that will destroy it altogether.
