Comic book thread

Updated the thread name because it is no longer about my nerd crying over X-Men

I am so grossly let down by the current run of X-Men, like most 90’s kids I grew up reading the series and watched the TV series on Fox. There’s been many iterations of the team, some being better than others but in the end they were all more or less heroic (if not at times troubled) characters. The setting now is they are defenders of a “mutant utopia” where anytime someone dies they’re reborn in plant pods so death has no real meaning for them. They’re all truly evil characters that seem totally fine with murdering mutants who lose their powers so they can be reborn in those plant pods, and being the “benevolent” dictators of mankind.

I really don’t know what Marvel is doing with them now, they are literally segregationists and evil in this current run. I truly hate Hickman’s work on this series even though I generally really like Hickman and I feel really demoralized with a series I was really excited to read.

Any of you guys into comics? Is there something out there that maybe I am missing and should pick up? I’d like to find another heroic super hero team to follow that has a bit of the complicated dynamic that X-Men once had.

If you like the series could you maybe let me know what I am missing? Do you think that there’s going to be a payoff for this?

W…T…F?

No, seriously. W…T…F?

Please tell me they’re trying to show how frikkin’ horrible a world like those series would actually be.

If not…get out of Dodge. I don’t read superhero comics anymore, but you can read almost the entire 40-year run of Elfquest on Elfquest. com for free.

I have no idea what they’re going. I have been trying to stick with this series but after reading #7 last night I just decided to tap out. After reading/seeing the X men just standing around and watching a mutant named Aero get sacrificed in a really weird ritual where she was helpless marched into a pit with Apocalypse (Yes he’s part of this Utopia) for him to kill her and be resurrected by the plants. Nightcrawler’s reaction was the straw that broke the camel’s back for me. He just let it happen, and when it conflicted with his faith he just decided to make his own religion.

I know this is just stupid fanboy raging that has become such an intolerable part of the comic’s scene but this line has really just shown characters that I love in such a terrible light that I am just done.

Sorry for the spoilers.

Edit: I do want to add though that the art is top notch in it.

Poly scott/logan/jean is my ot3

That would be cool if they weren’t monsters. I always liked the Scott/Emma Frost romance better. I think they played well off each other.

Are you saying theyre monsters cause they’re mutants?

Wow what a bigot

I’m not really a scholar when it comes to Marvel/DC comics, but I do remember House of M being rather notorious for doing pretty much this exact same premise: exploring the idea of a mutant utopia that ended up being anything but.

So I’m pretty sure by using the title “House of X”, they’re trying to call back to that. I’m not even reading it, but from the name alone, I forsee payoff.

Yeah this is techically like…the 15th genosha/mutant homeland plot

Poor mutants cant really catch a break

Its seeming to be the most successful though.

Think I spotted the problem…

I am seeing a lot of people who just love it. I am not really seeing it to be honest. Maybe I should just wait for the trade to come out but to see if they’s a payoff but I am not at all feeling these evil X-Men.

Probably because it plays off of the underlying conflict in the X-men franchise, which seems to be between Professor X and Magneto, with Professor X advocating for peaceful coexistence with non-mutants, while Magneto is only concerned with the future of mutants and could really give a flip about everyone else.

More a dc fan than marvel (go batman) but i do keep track of both and have been reading the x-men and it has potential especially since they pissed of the fantastic 4 and with dr.doom making his own doom sentinals, plus we have yet to see the outcome of nimrod and how he will affect the situation. Im hoping a nimrod infused with dr.dooms tech and magic making nimrod just too op for the mutants to handle. Insert the non mutants avengers, fantastic 4 ect to save the mutants leading to them having to rethink the stance they currently have on humans. That or just give me another house of m event and reset the whole thing

The house of m event was to reboot thr mutant population as had was over inflated and let marvel reduce the roster. At the end of the event less than 200 mutants existed with no new mutants being born.

I have heard that Fantastic 4 vs X-Men is really good. I was never a fan of F4 but I am interested in that story, I read on one of the comic sites I follow that Invisible Woman really verbally laid the smack down on them. I always thought Dr. Doom was cool so it might be worth a read.

Thats sort of the igniting incident with this,

In that after 405ish odd futures where sentinels kill mutants on side or enslave them, decades of unchanging bigotry towards mutants, and the knowledge of a new mutant who has attempted to help mutants pver multiple lives (and all failed) xavier has swung to magnetos side and basically thrown his lot into giving mutants a safe happy life away from everyone else

Oh yeah susan storm is no joke that allot of people don’t take seriously despite her being able to kill everyone on the planet in an instant. I think it will be am essential read for the xmen franchise though as doom and his plans (sentinels being the main threat to mutants now being infused with magic and greater tech) and them saying nimrod is coming its impossible to stop its only a matter of when

Thats not really the story though. Prof x has turned to killing his own kind now and manipulating them. Look at what he is doing to mystique right now and using her. When you side with apocalypse something is off

Yeah she’s a woefully underrated character. Reid’s powerset is so lame and silly that I just have a hard time with the series. I need to give them another chance I think. It is sad to see the X-men like this to be honest. My hope is that with all this alternate timeline crap going on that the actual X-Men get pulled in to wreck these monsters.

Can’t remember her name but she was the pre cog that was in a relationship with mystique. Prof x has refused to revive her but still has mystique going on suicide missions to bring her back and send on another one always using the line he will bring the dead girlfriend back. But he has told magneto he never would cause as a per cog she could see the future events and disrupt there plans meaning they have sonething nasty in the works ahead

I never said it was morally pure. The whole idea of why this specific iteration of a mutant homeland plot is so successful is because everyone is acting out of character. Everyone is doing things they normally wouldnt. All acting on moiras half a dozen failed lifetimes trying to save mutantkind.

Sometimes stories break the status quo and its good
