Alright, Arcane mages only (spellslingers really) should I even log in, or is it all a hot mess? We gonna be worth playing S2, or should I just keep living my life?
Well, you here, so your account is active, might as well do both?
I tried it for a bit last week. The story and the campaign are mid at best. The new zone is okay I guess but the whole cyberpunk goblin aesthetic just isn’t my cup of tea so it does nothing for me. I am assuming the raid will feel the same way. The music kinda stood out as a bright spot but they’re pushing the whole 50s New York gangster theme a little too hard and as a real life New Yorker it falls completely flat for me, lol.
As for Arcane they totally butchered the spec by removing Aethervision to please its vocal critics and replacing it with the worst possible alternative in the completely random new talent, whose name I can’t even be bothered to recall (I wanna say “Intuition”).
Speaking for myself I will probably play through the campaign, clear the raid and then probably go back to not playing the game again until they release the next major content patch. I have zero interest in the recurring seasonal grind.
I’d say it’s more steampunk- but I agree with you. The whole Goblin theme is nice that it exists in the game and I’m glad they got their own patch, but I personally don’t jive with it either.
I find the new DRIVE car really hard to control. I wish it was literally just Sky(Dragon)Riding except on the ground- and that the car operated like a normal mount . What I mean is, I wish it was a feature that went into our spellbooks like Skyriding and we’d get new spells to put on our bars like Skyward Ascent, Whirling Surge, etc. but like car and ground mount related of course. The fact that it’s a Wrath of the Lich King styled vehicle mechanically really disappointed me.
As far as Arcane spec, it’s looking really good regardless of Mage player gripes with the way Blizzard has handled things in the talent tree. Numbers and tuning wise it should be one of the best specs in raid (I guess Fire is looking insane right now as well, and Frost still good too). Being a Mage right now is going to be a very good time.
I am sad to say that Arcane has become a shell of what it used to be. I think this will be a grab achievements and quit season for me.
They’ve somehow turned a very entertaining and textured spec into a 3-button spec… but a 3-button spec that everyone in the mage discord is using a weakaura to do the rotation for them because it is still not intuitive.
I think the lest favorite thing of mine is that we build up charges in single target. Very often High Voltage only refunds a couple of charges. boss damage seems middle of the pack when arcane used to be great at ST and prio targets.
You can get big numbers doing the full AoE rotation but then it’s basically a ret paladin with a hard target cap.
I wish the Blizzard team would open up a dialog with us to try and figure out how to fix this mess, because with every iteration it gets worse and worse.
I agree that all 3 specs will probably be good this season numbers-wise, but Arcane is now bordering on being a rotation that I flat out do not enjoy.
Sure Aethervision was clunky, but I did enjoy the rotation
Oh lol, I meant to write steampunk idk how autocorrect changed it to that. I didn’t even know what cyberpunk meant, had to google it. It kinda fits though.
Quit my fire mage and rolled DH. Blizz has no idea what their doing.
I fee that, I even have a shaman I could bring back to life, but I just can’t get the feels up for any other class/spec, I just want a good time to roll as arcane.
I still haven’t logged on. I think my time runs out this month or next and then I’ll be one more player that just disappears…into the nether. May all your game-time be good-times.
All of the specs feel too “same-y” to me to really enjoy my Mage as much as I used to.
Arcane really stood out because it had enough complexity for me to be engaged, but it wasn’t so complicated that I didn’t want to play it. Now I feel like I’m just mashing Orbs and doing the rotation - This is especially why I don’t enjoy playing Frost because both specs feel too similar to each other. Fire, while interesting, is too messy for me to enjoy - I don’t like SKB or Meteor. I dunno.
I might give it another shot this week because my friend got back into the game and has been really enjoying their Frost Mage.
I find this interesting to read because this is exactly how I feel with pretty much every other DPS spec in the game besides for Mage. All three Mage specs for me scratch an itch that the other classes really don’t. I can enjoy certain other DPS specs like Balance Druid, Shadow Priest, Devastation Evoker. Even Ret Paladin, and Windwalker Monk for melee sometimes— but I always find myself coming right back to my Mage.
I think fire mage is gonna be the top dps when tier gear and bis items come rolling in. Fire mage is already pumping and that’s without tier.
Lots of rerollers to DH though since it’s back to easy mode with no mover changes, and it’s doing great damage after patch. But HDH tier set is garbage so they’re not going to get the same spike in dps with gear as others, like fire mage.
