Just an update wont let me post on my other forum, been getting constant spikes after 6pm every day for about 3 weeks then my latency will go back down in the 30s. when it happens i just rubberband around and run in place
Here is at 5:50pm about 10 to 15min before i normally lag
i’d start by power cycling everything - unplug modem/router for 1-2 minutes and replug. then, if you connect wirelessly, test by connecting via ethernet and see if that fixes it - you can post another winmtr while wired for us to look at.
This is wired, i’ve done a power cycle and factory reset of the modem, ive had 2 comcast techs come out in the past 7 days the first did absolutely nothing and told me my signals were fine. The 2nd guy replaces my splitter outside and that was about it and told me my signals were strong. I’ve also reinstalled my OS, tried different ethernet cables and different PC to rule out an ethernet port issue. I contacted blizzard and they informed me that the modem i was givien last week the XB3 has a puma 6 chipset which is currently causing a class action lawsuit against comcast for the exact same issues im having. So i tried an old modem that didnt have that chipset and the issue still happened. Everytime i spike ill be at a normal latency around 30-40MS then ill just run in place, no spells will trigger then it all teleports back rapidly, and my discord will turn robotic while this is happening. Once the spike stops ill instantly go back to normal latency making it almost impossible to prove to comcast since it’s not constant and only random, but it does happen very frequently
Looks like the 2 percent is just the nodes being busy and missing a few of the ping requests.
The WinMTR that is during the problem time is showing a increased amount of loss as it goes toward blizzards servers. along with latency spikes . I Would suspect that congestion along the comcast network is your issue.
Yes but this happens from 6pm to almost 5-6 am, EVERY day for the past 3 and half weeks i just dont see how high traffic could cause that since it persists for almost 12 hours and starts at a specific time, im so frustrated i actually feel like im being throttled
in either case, unfortunately you’re stuck dealing with comcast. whether it is starting at your modem/wiring or further down the line they’re the ones who would need to be trying to find and fix it. to me, having missed packets starting at your modem (or the first hop outside your house) needs to be fixed before you can figure out if there is an issue further down the line, but it may very well be that other hops are where the actual issue is.
yea thats what i figured after all this they just seem clueless and dont care, i do have a higher tier tech supposed to call be back within the next 2 hours and i will share these with them to see what they think. I’ll probably only show them the one i took of google.com since im sure they will most likely blame blizzard for the server ip run
I’d like to note i logged into my modem last night and turned off moCA and so far tonight i have not had an issue when i normally do by now, but im not counting on it
is that amount of packet loss in the google.com WinMTR considered significant? I personally don’t know alot about this type of stuff just learning as i go
for the typical internet user, probably not. if you just browse websites and watch youtube, you might notice something seems off, but everything probably runs ok.
for warcraft, yes that’s tons. losing any packets can cause disconnects - 1-2% packet loss is plenty to cause big problems in game, and you have 8% by the time you leave the first hop in your neighborhood.
Dunno what to do the tech call didnt even happen they never call back like they say they will even when they schedule it. Not sure how something will be fixed if they keep insisting nothing is wrong and i dont have any other ISP options unless i was terrible AT&T DSL internet. Should i try investing in a higher end modem/router setup?
The only way to get things fixed with most ISP’s is to get past the people that answer the phones. Twitter is a good way to get to tier 2 support. So is the Comcast forums on DSL reports
You could be sharing your Loop with a major company or business possibly several that does their backups at night . Cable unlike DSL or fiber has everyone in a area on a single cable. SO the total capacity of the cable is shared by everyone on the loop
Things are changing its why i can no longer play wow, and im mad as hell, my isp started the same bs they pulled prior to the NN law. Now its back to the horrible throttling like it used to be years ago. So i had to say goodbye to wow and netflix.
A throttled connection would not actually show up on a winMTR or trace as a issue. The ISP would have to throttle your connection below 1 megabit for it to affect wow.
So what is degrading my speeds and quality. I get 28mbps and up till a few months ago my connection had zero issues. The technicians have been out to my house 3 times. And each time they say im getting perfect connection speeds, im provisioned for 25 , but have gotten up to 30. This only happens after long sessions on video sites or games. They also replaced my equipment when they were out, and checked the lines. Everything was fine.
I just did a test with nothing but the site open. Notice the bufferbloat for upload? it hits 2k at points.
That ping is fine mostly on the download, when it runs the upload thats where its over 1k and up to 2k, thats why i get a grade f on the buffer latency.
Now when i play or watch movies that speed will drop to kbps like dial up lol.
It has the puma 6 chipset in it. which is problematic. If you decide to get a new mode/router get one without a puma 6 chips set. for example this modem does not have a puma 6 Netgear CM600 DOCSIS 3.0 Modem
