Combo gold making professions (please, avoid unecessary speculation)

Hey guys, i know there’s a lot of this kinda of thread here but it’s most speculation and i’m in need of as directly answer (although would be good a “why”). So… i’m a fresh 110 maghar monk. I’ve already got a alchemy/herbalism toon. I need a combo profession (not both gather, pls) to this monk, for gold making purposes. Thank u so much and have a great day

TL;DR: Profession gold making besides alchemy and herbalism?

Armor making professions tend to only have a transmog market beyond some initial gearing in the latest xpac although tailoring does have a market for high end bags.

Alchemy, enchanting, and to a lesser degree, jewel crafting and inscription are the professions with a more sustained market for raiding.

Thank you very much for your answer. I’m considering enchanting, but i’m bit afraid i’ll spend a lot of money leveling Tailor. I’m left with Inscription that seems a bit useless rn. Jewel seems a lot money spending as well. So… what do u think?

Tailoring is pretty easy to level. You can do 1-300 classic just by making bandages and most of the other expansions will get you about half way or more just through bandages but I haven’t leveled a tailor through legion yet so I can’t speak to that.

I do have a couple of tailoring alts sitting in wod garrisons churning out 30 slot bags. The only difficult part was waiting for the NPC to show up in the garrison who sells the advanced Hexweave cloth recipe. Once I got that, I turn out a bag every two and a half days and spend an hour once a week or two trapping 100 beasts to convert to cloth.

I plan on playing only the BFA recipes, that’s why i’m so unsure

BfA professions on the whole are crap. You can make gold with them, but it is a lot of work, especially if you don’t know what you are doing. Dual gathering is a simple way to make gold as you are playing the game, especially when a lot of crafted items have a small or non-existent profit margin over the raw materials.

A gathering / crafting combo is also not necessarily profitable. The materials you gather are NOT free. They have an opportunity cost based on what you could sell them for on the AH. So if you can’t buy all of the raw materials off of the AH and turn a profit, you should be selling the raw materials and buying the item from another player willing to take the loss. The vast majority of gold you have made from alchemy / herbalism has come herbalism, not alchemy.

Inscription glyphs seem to continue to be doing well this expansion. The catch is that there aren’t really any glyphs to craft in BfA. So you will need to at least level Broken Isles Inscription and farm demons for world drop glyphs.

Engineering is an option if you are willing to farm the MOTHERLOAD for mount parts and the schematic. But you will likely also want to consider leveling Pandaria Engineering for the SkyGolem plans as well. Possibly Northrend Engineering for the Chopper mount.

Enchanting might be a decent option, though I would think of it as more of a pseudo-gathering profession, converting 50g WQ trash into shards and crystals. I would only pair it with tailoring if you plan to craft bags. Otherwise I would go with leatherworking and just buy the leather you need off of the AH. That way you can at least craft some decent BoP armor, which is the main benefit of the armor crafting professions.

As for the armor crafting professions, they seem to be relatively profitable at the moment, likely due to the gold rush of 8.1 and 340 Sinister gear. That could be dying down now depending on your server. The market takes a lot of speculation though, knowing when to craft and sell items, when the game will be flooded with fresh 120s, etc…

Honestly, there’s no money in anything anymore. There are a few dozen people, with very deep pockets, that have pretty much bought up anything and everything worth anything on the auction house. Then they’ve turned right around and jacked the price up between 300% to like 10,000% above what it should be. They use third party software to place these auctions up frequently and automatically undercut you on anything you put up. If you undercut them again, they’ll come undercut you again. If you price too low, they’ll buy it up and then resell it.

They’ve pretty thoroughly ruined the econony at this point. Nobody can afford to buy anything, and nobody is able to sell anything, to the overall detriment of the game itself.

In all my years here, never have I seen it this bad, and this thorough.

Blizzard needs to make the AH unusable by add-ons. Enough is enough .

There is money to be made here and there for new players, but in general competition is fierce and Blizzard’s decision to deflate the economy has made it a lot more difficult. I started trying to make money off professions about 2 weeks ago and I’ve made 150k so far but sales are slow, you are constantly undercut and the decreasing population kills the markets in a lot of low-medium pop servers. High pop servers have there own challenges with fiercer competition. Tradeskill addons are useful because they at least let you know if something you put up can be sold at a reasonable profit.
