Combat Tips

Hey all,

I’m looking for some advice on staying focused during combat in dungeons and raids. When there’s a lot going on, multiple mobs, tons of spell effects, people quickly swapping targets, I find myself losing focus or being slow to transition to the next mob.

I notice that my damage tends to fall off in these moments, especially when I see other players with similar specs keeping their damage high while mine drops. I know some of this could come down to skill or experience, but I think my biggest issue is target awareness. With so many effects on screen and everyone moving quickly, I sometimes struggle to tell which mob I should be attacking at that moment.

Most of the time I feel like I’m trying to see past all the visual clutter just to make sure I’m hitting the right target, and that’s what I really want to improve.

If anyone has tips, habits, or settings that helped them with target priority and focus in hectic fights, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!

Huge tip I can give is to get Leatrix Plus. In addition to many QoL things, it also can anchor your Tooltip to your mouse. That is a huge advantage when you lose track of your cursor often.

It depends entirely on the context, I think. Your targeting priority in a raid might be different than during a dungeon and will DEFINITELY be different for overworld content and delves.

Try using the focus target option? Right click the tank’s portrait and click “set focus”. This will let you see which target that tank is attacking. Or maybe pick a person playing a similar class to yours in a raid? Then just try and learn from how they target things. Make sure it’s a person you see actually doing well, though. You don’t want to target someone having issues like you, then it’s just the blind leading the blind.

Then just attack the person they’re attacking. Just click the portrait of their target and start firing away.

This isn’t going to solve all problems and may not be useful in all situations, but maybe it can help?
