Combat text ADDON?

anyone use a combat text addon?

I’m struggling to see what I’m even hitting for with the default text, are there any decent ones? I just wanna be able to see big hits when they happen

I don’t think any of the combat text addons made it through the API changes. But the creator of MikScrollingBattleText is working on a new one: MidnightBattleText. https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/midnightcombattext

It’s in early stages right now, but he’s working on it.

There’s also this basic one that I found: https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/nameplate-scrolling-combat-text

Miks Scrolling battle text. Looks like this EU paladin. Original WoTLK level 60 gameplay.

Littled - Level 60 Ret Paladin Twink [3.2.0]

Always used that one I have. Look at video to see the addons though.

Idk if an addon works but you can use slash commands to turn them off. Thats what I did.

Just copy paste the following in your chat bar.

_

To disable damage numbers: /console floatingCombatTextDamage 0

To disable healing numbers: /console floatingCombatTextHealing 0

_

To re enable combat numbers replace the 0 at the end with a 1.

i can see them just fine with the default, need to do some checkmarking sounds like

Fantastic news that MSBT is being rebuilt. Definitely one of the bigger losses I’ve felt from the API change.

any news on when it will be done?

This is a late reply due to not seeing this thread initially, but I want to clarify that MidnightBattleText is being developed by a new author, not the author of MSBT. They had started work on updating the latter, but due to not being able to reach the ones responsible for maintaining it they backed out for rights/ethics reasons and decided to create their own addon instead.

Going to grab MidnightBattleText right now and see what state it’s in. Playing with Blizzard’s built-in numbers is absolute garbage. Ironically, I realized that I miss a clear visual cue of incoming damage more than I miss my damage dealing numbers. I had MSBT (and SCT before that) set to scroll incoming damage numbers to the left of my character - now I’ve repeatedly found myself not realizing how much damage I’m taking, until I would glance at my health bar and see a sliver.

I used to run Healbot (even on non-healers) because the health bar would go from green to orange to red as your health dropped - another very obvious visual cue. Now that part of the API is hidden so it’s always just green, and it SUCKS.

I tried it and it wasnt very good… to the point it was still scrolling things 2 minutes after I ended combat.

It looks like a decent start but it has a very very long way to go. Breaking the damage meter is also pretty much a non starter.

Yeah, I checked it out just now. Completely breaks the damage meter, scrolls indefinitely. The half-baked MSBT that someone put together which doesn’t have all the right spell icons still feels good enough, at least it looks like MSBT.
