Combat logs (and thus recount/details) should only show your own DPS

Would this game be better if we got rid of being able to see other people’s dps?

Everyone keeps saying we need recount because they want to see their dps and know if they are improving.

So okay, why not keep your own dps visible but have the combat log not report on others.

Would that solve a problem?

Trouble is, it’s not just about knowing if you’re improving, it’s knowing how you compare to others as well. You can’t tell how well you’re keeping up without comparative data.

I’m not clear there’s a problem to be solved, honestly. Analytics tools are incredibly useful and I’d like to see them remain as open and valuable as possible.

If there is a problem it’s not with the add-ons themselves, it’s with monumental twits who use those tools poorly, or as an excuse for belittling others.

Raid leaders use logs to identify problems so they can take corrective action, so no.

This, if someone is doing way too low dps they get the boot, or you take corrective action beforehand.

no, because there is no problem. in all likelihood it would cause problems.

if a person is being called out for having low dps, hiding it from others wont make them useful to the group/raid, it will just hinder the other players as the scramble trying to figure out why adds aren’t dying fast enough, or who’s messing up mechanics.

I have a friend who pulls around 7k dps as a 400 ilvl rogue. Never used damage meters, uniquely terrible at the game.

I had him download details, DBM, a number of other addons to improve. Now he’s aware that he’s doing a fraction of the DPS as others. Noticeably improving ever since. He wouldn’t had he not seen the DPS of others.

According to the forums you can still do good dps without high ap, good azerite traits, essences or corrupted gear : )

Woah, I cant believe that was a lie and people who are too casual get kicked making the grind a mandatory thing

While we may not live in a world this ideal, I’ve seen better players absolutely dumpster people with better gear because they know how to play their class and how to apply that knowledge to the boss in question.

I’d say in EP (Discounting benthic) it wouldn’t be unusual to see someone playing well out DPS someone 15-20 ilvls higher playing poorly, even with the same talents and azerite traits.

Not optimal but acceptable dps, now depending on the content that gap between optimal and acceptable drastically decreases come time to Mythic Raiding and high M+ Keystones.

Would this game be better if we got rid of numbers entirely so we don’t know how to improve ourselves and others? :open_mouth: /s

Contrary to popular belief, this game isn’t single-player, and people still do group content. And if one person is dragging behind, that usually drags the whole team down until they improve, and they won’t improve if you don’t tell him where they went wrong and how to correct it. Especially on bosses that can be a DPS check.

Yeah.

No.

But without the ability to compare your DPS to others, you can never really tell if you have actually improved or just suck slightly less than before.

Higher gear doesn’t equate to skill Ralph, it helps, but not if your skill is pretty crap. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I do the dumb grind everyday all day on this character, along picking some neato traits and essences that is available to me and i still perform like trash playing as him, and i got nobody but myself to blame on that. Meanwhile theirs people out there who were lower ilvl then me and my DK who outperforms me.

Fact is, this is a competitive multiplayer game. Even if you don’t engage in PVP, you’re still competing with other players in terms of damage, healing, or tanking. The only way to not compete with other players is to stick entirely to solo content. Barring that, competition is just an intrinsic part of this game.

Just don’t use the addon, and then you don’t have to worry about it.

How did you come to this conclusion from what he wrote?

Sorry perhaps you are unaware, I’m not sure if you made that toon before it became a thing, but the name ‘Snowflake’ feels trollish these days, see the implication is that you are overly sensitive but I don’t know if you made that name deliberately or not, but in the later half of the 2010’s this became what the word snowflake meant.

Then what’s the point?
