Combat Log

This isn’t something I’ve seen discussed much. During the BlizzCon demo, the Combat Log was the newer style - divided into two categories “what happened” and “what happened to me”.

The original combat log was just a long string of messages in a single pane.

I don’t know when, exactly, the original combat log got changed, but I know it never felt as useful or informative. In fact, that change was a big part of my picking up different damage meters (Recount, Skada, etc) and exporting combat log data, because it was just painful trying to figure out details.

  • Do you think we’re getting the Retail combat log?
  • Which do you prefer? Any reasons in particular?

Well, I didn’t pay much attention to it in the Demo, but I agree 100% that the classic old style should be (and I would venture a guess that it WILL BE) used in Classic. After all it is part of the UI and that will be old school.

I’m inclined to say make it the old style just for the sake of authenticity.

Though if it happens to be the new style, I wont flip out or anything. I don’t use the combat log often enough for me to care that much which version it is.

Im hoping the old lag macro works so that the old duping methods work again.

I hope we get the original log, but I doubt it. While it would be nice to #NoChanges and avoid the heavy analysis etc, guilds are going to want it, and the current client gives it to you. I remember helping debug the new log in TBC beta (I think) and its definitely more usable.

:face_with_raised_eyebrow:
How does that have anything to do with the combat log?

They both was part of the vanilla experience

7.3.5 API. Messing with the system won’t work.

Lol i know
