So, I was watching the Ion interview with Asmongold, and if it’s true that the combat design team has to work around addons to make bosses work. I would rather Blizzard just get rid of 3rd party combat addons to give us better fights.
Hearing that the team is restricted or that they have to figure out different mechanics to make fights work because combat addons tell you how to do a boss fight is pretty absurd. It’s probably why we have such hard raids now, and boss fights, and even dungeon boss fights have become more complex.
If we can have better fights without the team having to work around addons. I seriously don’t mind raiding without DBM, Big Wigs, Weak Auras, or whatever floats your boat.
I see this often and I don’t buy it. If they wanted to stop making fight detail addons work, they could stop making mechanics happen exactly X amount of seconds into a pull. I don’t know why a fight addon makes the fight any different, anyone with google (or even reading the adventure guide) would know what the mechanics do and how to deal with them anyways.
Maybe they think they need to make boss kills require more damage because we know when things are coming and we can plan our bursts around it? Again, I don’t see what the addons do except take information that would have been in the dungeon journals and show you them in live time.
No, if they ever remove or hinder DBM any further or do ANYTHING to weakauras, they can kiss this game goodbye.
Im still angry over what they did to DBM’s radar after HFC.
They can simply design fun clear fights and let addons do their things, they need to stop worrying so much about difficulty and worry more about making a fun game.
people nowadays seem to think that difficulty = fun, which is skewed as HELL.
Yea thank goodness they said they are actively discussing ways to limit that TRASH, combat add-ons ruin the game and I can confidently say they will gain more people than they will lose by reining that garbage in.
I’m actually starting to ween myself off of addons. Playing FFXIV made me realize how much better it feels to do stuff naturally instead of being a slave to a bot like I have been the past 10+ years. Heck when the new UI drops I’ll probably get rid of Elvui too.
I mean, if a fight is too easy is it really that fun? I had a blast doing Anduin, and I feel like he’s a really hard fight even with addons. Though, I don’t really look at addons for that fight except for when you need to run stars out.
Blizz would just have to remove the Combat Log and any player access to that info which will likely never happen.
It’s funny because many of the current WOW devs came from the Theory crafting community and they created the min/max culture we see now. Now they want to put the genie back in the bottle.
I agree. I think simple fights can be the best. Simple fights with very punishing mechanics can be great. Like, painsmith with the rolling death balls, and the maze.
Painsmith was a terrible fight that exposed how terrible the engine this game is running really is.
Getting sniped by spikes while being clearly out of it wasn’t fun, you can NEVER thread the needle in this game due to how janky this engine is, so they need to stop doing trash like that, or fix the engine.
They also need to fix the telegraphs in this game, make them 100% clear where every damaging ability will land, including melee frontals with a V cone like wildstar used to do.
And get rid of “swirlies” in favor of clear red circles that are 100% accurate of where damage is being dished.
I think that’s because the casual players are what keep WoW alive at the end of the day. A lot of players don’t play WoW to push hardcore content, or don’t have a lot of time for it to make the grind, or sit through hours on wiping on bosses or through a +15 in m+ to relearn boss mechanics.
It was also an extreme version of one of my biggest pet peeves with WOW. Environment Color. Making everything in there shades of Brown with Brown spikes. It happens all the time.
I love the WOW Art team but how about a more diverse color palette in Raid encounters?
I think the problem with the telegraphs that they have currently in the game is that most of the telegraphs being used are the same color as the dungeon, so it’s camoflauged really well with the aesthetic of the dungeon. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve done encounters, and I’ve told myself “what the heck hit me?” Just some ability that was hidden because of the aesthetic, color, or whatever of the dungeon layout.
This, as well.
they’re TERRIBLE at color coding.
Like i mentioned above, telegraphs need to be 100% clear, non stylized (yes get rid of these dumb looking faded swirlies).
Damage should always be RED, soaks should be yellow, buffs should be blue/gree, ALWAYS.
Ion stated that they could disable the API for combat addons only for like Raids. That would be a great change and help bridge the gap between new and casual players that are looking to join one.
TERRIBLE idea.
We don’t need addons to get nuked, we need the devs to start developing decent fights instead of this slop we’re getting.
If people want to use addons, let them be. Stop trying to make WoW an e-sport, this game will NEVER be one
let people play the way they want to.
basically, they also said its very tricky because people leave in mass when the things that make the game playable are removed.
also, removing certain things make the basic baseline tracking stop working. like imagine clicking your buttons and not knowing when it comes off cds. it becomes clunky for cd classes. you have to face roll on the keyboard to find a button that works.
the problem mentioned though isnt really so much the info addons. thats fine. its the computational addons that solves the game mechanics for you. thats harder to control.
