is there a way that one of the professions can make a dye that can change the color of your clothing so you can wear or transmog an outfit to get the look you want and then have this Dye to change the color???
Someone asked during the most recent Blizzcon and the answer was that dyes wouldn’t work with the way armor is designed. Here’s a link to a thread that has a bit more info.
The problem is, they keep putting out reskins (aka same armor with different colors). If they let us dye there armor they wouldn’t be able to make us chase the same gear in different colors.
Sure they say they can’t because of the way stuff works, but it’s honestly just bs. They simply won’t because they need to keep recoloring stuff to make us chase the “new” version.
The reskins are a little more complex then changing the red undershirt on your chest to green. You don’t actually have a chest piece in the game (at least for most outfits), you just have your characters normal bare body. An image file is then wrapped onto the body of the character and other game techniques are used to make it look as though you are wearing a piece of armor. A re-skin has to recreate that image and the in-game shading to make it look appropriate for the new color scheme.
A dye system like SWTOR has would be nice to have. However it would require a ground-up rebuild of the entire armor system…all 14 years. Blizzard can’t even fix the AH or guild banks and it took them 10-12 years to add four additional slots to the default backpack.
