Oil heaters are a thing.
I think they do this in Alaska, with plug-in engine block heaters, so your car doesn’t seize up while parked.

Aye, we had glow plugs for our diesel engines in Minnesota.

We do this in Canada for the diesel car.
I think most diesel engines have glow plugs (not sure about all though, but certainly Volkswagen’s do anyway).
