I am a woman and I am an immigrant and I think that Blizzard raising money for code-dot-org/Whomper with Whomper is demeaning and insulting to both. I will only purchase this pet after the charity has ended.
I think that it’s insulting to women when techbros think that we need special treatment or “help” as if we’re not smart enough to succeed in tech or STEM fields by ourselves. My grandmother worked as a mathematician with computers in the 60s and 70s, if she didn’t need “help” or special treatment then I’m sure we don’t need it now.
I cannot believe what kind of company Blizzard has become. I remember when they released store pets and raised money for foundations that actually helped people when they needed it. I suppose Blizzard felt like they needed to make a statement to let everyone know that they were hip with the new political trends.
Organizations like Make-A-Wish create a difference in lives that seriously need it. The same is true for the Red Cross when Blizzard decided to raise money for disaster relief efforts. The reality is that we live in a world with a lot of problems and the code/Whomper initiative doesn’t come anywhere remotely close to the importance of things like helping children or people that lost their homes (California fires for example!!!).
I don’t have any particular problems with this charity, I do agree it seems a bit silly that there is a fundraiser for minorities and women to get into certain jobs in this day and age (also coming from a woman, though i’m not minority).
I only buy pets at full price when it is for food drives, disease research or animal welfare drives, so i’m passing on this one too, i see no issue in an organization trying to help people learn computer sciences, but only if it is inclusive to all (and not just minorities/women).
It’s just an example of how there better ways of donating money. Blizzard operates in Irvine and LA has a gigantic homeless population, I’m sure they need it more.
That’s cool and I respect that you have your own opinion, even if it does not sound like it, sorry. That being said, I think that taking offense at a charity that is trying to do something positive with a spin (opinion) such as your is kind of ridiculous. Sorry, but that is my opinion. I don’t sometimes disagree with people in a manner that does not sound insulting.
They just don’t understand most women don’t want to work in stem, any that do have a much easier time getting assistance than any man does due to the innurable revenues for assistance that is offered to them in the form of scholarships, programs and affirmative action.
The more free people and industies are, the less women go into stem as evidence in a few european countries.
Yeah… I am only gonna say I agree that I would’ve preferred Make-A-Wish Foundation instead because at least I know the money is going to help these poor kids.
I mean heck there is a quest in Mulgore that was made for a Make-A-Wish kid. Even the NPC was voiced by the Make-A-Wish kid Ezra Chatterton.
IDK what Code is supposed to be but I rather fund a more known and proven organization like Make-A-Wish than this unknown WTF-is-that? one.
Well, you know, simply donating on your own without getting a pixel pet for yourself in return is always a viable alternative. But I guess simply donating without complaining wouldn’t let you be all holier-than-thou about which charities are “worthy” enough for you.
People: BLIZZ NEEDS TO RESPECT WAHMEN AND MINORITIES
Blizzard: Hello everyone here’s a charity pet that helps both
People: HOW DARE BLIZZARD TRY TO HELP?! IT’S SEXIST FOR MEN TO HELP WOMEN
I feel like the problem is selective education. Trying to support some students because they were born a certain gender or colour and ignoring others just because they are more likely to choose it statistically.
