Clueless with visions? Don't know how to progress in them? LOOK HERE!

Hello everyone, I’m Furytractor from the Lightbringer server and I want to help you easily progress through visions. If you don’t know who I am, I’m a frequent contrarian poster on the forums. But, I also do a lot of free coaching for visions.

I currently have 8 max rank cloaks between 6 different classes (Paladin, Priest, Druid, DH, Rogue, Shaman). I have Rank 12 cloaks on a Hunter, Warlock, and Warrior. I’ve coached several people on visions so they can understand all of the intricacies that come with them (for free). If that’s something you’re interested in you can add me (Livewire042#1443) and we can set up a time.

In this guide, I’m going to go over:

  • Progression of cloak ranks and how much to clear
  • Figuring potions and their buffs
  • Tips, Tricks, and Cheesing mobs

Let’s get started…

Progression of Cloak Ranks

If you are running solo visions or group visions without a carry, it will take approximately 17 visions to get to max rank assuming that you complete the required criteria to level your cloak each run. The orbs listed are not absolute, but rather benchmarks of how much you should clear before you orb and a good way to gauge your progress.

Rank 1

Kill Thrall/Alleria, don’t do any side areas.

Ranks 2-6

Dwarven District (Stormwind)

The Drag (Orgrimmar)

  • Orb 1 - Once you arrive at the first corrupted area

  • Orb 2 - Sometime before you kill the corrupted area elite

  • Orb 3 - Right before last boss (Alleria - Stormwind/Thrall - Orgrimmar)

Ranks 7-10

Stormwind: Dwarven District and Trade District (Two Corrupted Areas)

Orgrimmar: The Drag and The Valley of Honor (One Corrupted, One Lost Area)

  • Orb 1 - When you first arrive at the first corrupted area

  • Orb 2 - When you arrive at the second corrupted or lost area/before end elites if you have low sanity and no Emergency Cranial Defibrillation up.

  • Orb 3 - Right before last boss (Alleria - Stormwind/Thrall - Orgrimmar)

It’s okay to let your Emergency Cranial Defibrillation proc between the corrupted and/or lost areas. You should not use a full sanity orb on Thrall/Alleria at this point.

Ranks 11-15

Full Clear

Stormwind: Dwarven District → Old Town (Use the portal to go back to the Stormwind Cathedral) → Trade District → Mage Quarter

Orgrimmar: The Drag → Valley of Honor (Use the totem to go back to the main area, clear the left side if you haven’t already) → Valley of Wisdom/Valley of Spirits

In Stormwind, I will end with Mage Quarter every time due to the ease of access from the Trade District to the Mage Quarter.

In Orgrimmar, I like to do the Valley of Wisdom before the Valley of Spirits because it’s a harder zone and it is less mental stress to do the Valley of Spirits right before Thrall. It’s not faster to do one before the other, but you will get more sanity from the Valley of Wisdom when you have Elite Extermination which is ideal after doing the Rexxar boss.

Notes

Ranks 1-4 you need to kill the boss in order to progress your cloak. The only reason you want to do additional areas is for the corrupted mementos to progress your Titanic Research. It’s imperative to abandon your progress in a zone if you get to a point in your sanity that won’t allow you to kill the boss.

Ranks 7-10 will take two runs if you are doing them solo. There really isn’t a point in doing more than two zones for these ranks. You are able to clear three zones around rank 8 or 9, but you’ll still have to do 2 runs and you’re better off collecting the six crystals instead of stressing for another zone and not being able to turn them in.

Finding potions and their Buffs
Each vision has potions scattered throughout different areas. There are three buffs, one good potion that gives you 100 sanity, and one bad potion that makes you lose sanity when you consume it. These are not constant and change every single run.

Bad Potion: Black -> Good Potion: Green
Bad Potion: Blue -> Good Potion: Purple
Bad Potion: Green -> Good Potion: Red
Bad Potion: Purple -> Good Potion: Black
Bad Potion: Red -> Good Potion: Blue

The bad potion is determined in the same area in Stormwind and Orgrimmar.

In the Grommash Hold area in Orgrimmar, the potion is in the second hut on the left-hand side. It’s the hut just after the guild bank. Shown here:

In the Stormwind Cathedral area in Stormwind, it is directly ahead of where you start in the corner. Shown here:

Tips, Tricks, and Cheesing Mobs
There are a lot of class-specific tips/tricks that I can share, but I’d rather focus on the universal information for all classes.

Orgrimmar Tips, Tricks, and Cheesing Mobs

  • If you stand directly under the elite mobs Annihilator Lak’Thal and Inquisitor Gnshal in The Drag you will not get hit by any of their abilities (besides the Cries of the Void from Gnshal).
  • Rexxar’s adds come out based on the HP pool, I have not been able to find the exact percentage of HP that they come out. If you have enough burst to kill Rexxar quickly and you’re running Purification Protocol/Focused Azerite Beam, burst Rexxar to proc all 4 adds and use these abilities. If you don’t have enough burst, slow play Rexxar and manage the adds one at a time.
  • If you have an orb available before Thrall, make sure you pull him with an orb up to be able to kill the adds without taking any sanity.
  • You can skip the group of mobs with two K’thir Dominators in the Valley of Wisdom. It can be a hard pull with double stuns and might be worth losing out on the ~20 mementos for killing them.
  • Unless you really need the HP, skip killing Gamon. He does not give a good enough buff to justify wasting time on killing him.
  • The Aqir mobs have a Swarm Leader that gives all of the mobs a 50% haste boost. These are the ultimate priority with the 3 packs that have them.
  • The Aqir Bonecrusher NPC before Rexxar cast a Headbutt that knocks players back. To circumvent this, position your character with their back uphill. The headbutt will knock you back a few feet.
  • If you are having trouble with this pack with the Swarm Leader + Bonecrusher, you can CC the Bonecrusher with most CCs (Hex, Blind, Poly, Roots, Stuns). Kill the Swarm Leader, then the Bonecrusher.

Stormwind Tips, Tricks, and Cheesing Mobs

  • In the Dwarven district on Scorched Feet weeks, the buff is harder to get because the debuffs will proc making your character bounce around. If you inch forward with your character by repeatedly pressing ‘W’ it will not trigger the Scorched Feet.
  • You can kick the bombs that Therum Deepforge throws in the direction your character is facing. This also means you can kick the bombs on Alleria and it’s imperative that you do if you’re a melee character.
  • You can decurse Inquistor Darkspeak’s Agonizing Torment to prevent sanity loss. If you have a short CD on your kick, use kick → dispel ->kick again. If you have a long kick, use decurse → kick → decurse again.
  • Near the mage tower, there is a pack of mobs with two Fallen Voidspeakers and a Greater Void Elemental. Always kill the Void Elemental first, he puts a shadow debuff that will make you take more shadow damage that the Voidspeakers cast. These Voidspeakers will only cast Psychic Scream when they are near you. Keep your distance and kill the elemental.
  • Zardeth of the Black Claw will cast two Shadow Bolts and then Rain of Fire on your location. If you position your character farther away from Zardeth, you will drop the Rain of Fire in a location that you can still attack the Zardeth outside of the Rain.

General Tips & Tricks

  • All of the tentacles that spawn from the ground will not burrow if you are standing on them.
  • Scorched Feet only goes off if you are moving. Control your moving and you can use it to escape bad mechanics like Forge-Guard Hurrul’s Entropic Leap.

I’d like to open this thread up for a Q&A which I can directly answer some questions or take any constructive criticism. If there’s something you have an issue with or want to know about, please let me know below and I’ll gladly address it! Thanks for checking out my guide!

Since i already get “The Mad World” achievement, i will give some of my thoughts on the guide:

Initially you recommend doing the drag section as first additional section, i really think that should be valley of spirit section as the boss fight is easier compare to the drag. But after i see your tips section say that the final boss of the drag can be cheesed, well maybe is a better area to do for new comer. Same go for valley of honour, i just think that people should go tackle valley of wisdom instead if they were clueless on the mechanics of Rexxar (not to mentioned those annoying headbutt from bone crusher). As a arms warrior, the deep wound is just too hard for me to control rexxar’s hp, so i always burst him down and bladestorm when all the adds come out.

Continue on valley of honour section, for the final bone crusher before rexxar, i always rush to the bone crusher and stand behind it with a sac of aqir egg behind, so that when it headbutt me (not likely because i always stun it first), i will only get knocked to the egg sac only.

For Inquisitor Gnshal at the drag, i don’t know you can cheese it with your method. For my method, i will always lure him to the tree stump nearby, so when he cast void torrent, i will run behind the tree stump to LOS it. You can quickly do a circle run around him to avoid all the void torrent, but for me is just too risky.

For Gamon the rare mobs, to clarify, every run the orgrimmar will spawn either a blacksmith (forget his name) inside the blacksmith shop or Gamon rare mob at the inn, the blacksmith is better because it give you 10% attack power when killed compare to gamon only give you 10% hp. At Valley of spirit, after you cleared the 2nd totem, there is 1 rare mob (i forget her name) that fishing nearby, is very annoying to kill because she can instant hex you, but if you kill it you can get 10% movement speed + haste buff. Stormwind also got this, where either you complete the event to get 10% haste buff or kill the npc to get 10% vers buff, i didn’t play as alliance so i didn’t know the correct building name for that 2 rare mobs. At trade district, sometime the bank vault door got opened, there is a rare mob inside you can kill for 10% crit buff. OP should put this on the guide to let people search for this buff for easier run.

When you fight shaman at orgrimmar, he sometime will cast a totem that will drag you toward it and cast aoe damage, so you either quickly run away when it cast aoe spell, or kill it quickly when it drag you toward it.

For stormwind run, after killing shaw, i just lazy to use the portal to return and go to trade district, since the old town area can easily reach trade district.

For potion buff, i recommend download weakauras, there is one weakauras that dratnos put the link on his horrific vision run video, on each run you check the poison potion’s colour and click on the weakauras, it will show all the effect on every potion, easy to keep track. It also track all the buff duration of the potion, and the cd of gift of the titan buff, so that you can time your run to make use of the buff to fight some boss and avoid losing sanity during the fight.

Finally, food buff. There is some horrific vision specific food buff that really help you the run, like restore 100 sanity, 2% hp regen, increase movement speed, reduce enemy detection radius, reduce lost control duration effect in the vision. Eating this will greatly help you during the run.

Honestly, I recommend the Drag & Valley of Honor first because like you said, the mechanics can be cheesed very easily in the drag and going back means clearing the left side of the Grommash Hold. It’s faster to do the Drag and not have to reclear mobs. Plus, Rexxar on non-mask runs is considerably easier so it’s good to start getting reps in learning that fight when it’s easier rather than learning it all over again. I do agree he’s the hardest part about that entire vision, but after going through it several times early, I find it much easier to progress in the long run.

If you just stand up hill, you don’t go a noticeable distance when you get headbutted. I do applaud your thinking and if that’s what works for you then I’m all for that method.

Yes, that is the alternative strat. One I used before I found out you could just stand inside him. The only thing that I didn’t mention is that you can’t jump while standing inside him. You will get hit by the void torrent. So for this week, that means you sit with a few bugs on you for a while which doesn’t kill you or make you lose sanity at all.

She will cast the instant hex as soon as she is done casting whether you interrupted the cast or not. It’s good to let her cast and then CC her right away to finish her before she hexes you. It’s not a big deal to get hexed outside of mask runs, but when you get to mask runs you’ll lose sanity due to the pools of shadow you leave behind you.

I appreciate the elaboration on the other parts I did not include. I definitely didn’t want to overwhelm anyone and figured fine people like yourselves would add more on to it! Thank you!

Just my 2 cents.

Personally, I got Mage Quarter first for SW, use Drums on Umbric and by then I’m 30 seconds off Drums just before Alleria.
If I’m on an alt drums will definitely be up again for Alleria.

I do the same on Org. Drag into Spirits first.

Trade District. The pack on the left entrance and the right entrance are completely avoidable.
If I’m on DH or DK and my gift isn’t on it’s CD I’ll pull all the necessary packs to the first mini-boss of trade district.

It’s worth noting that if you’re ranged, if you stand at max range she’ll never cast hex on you. It seems that lightning bolt has a 50y range and hex has a 30y range, and she’ll never move closer to cast hex as long as you’re close enough for her to cast lightning bolt. So she just won’t even try to cast it at all.

You can progress faster on the earlier levels by doing two areas earlier. There is no need to save a full orb for the last boss. As long as you arrive there with 500 sanity you should be good.

I never do drag or dwarven first I find them slower if only doing a single one very early on.

I disagree killing the void walkers first on portals. At higher levels they take a while to kill and you will get some debuffs. You can kill the portal masters faster. The void walkers don’t do shadow damage so leaving them till last doesn’t matter with the debuff stacks.

I don’t understand what you are saying here. I need 2 pages for each of ranks 7 and 8. I can do two zones, Dwarven district and Trade district, and get both pages. I may need to skip Alleria, but so what?

  1. I’d recommend the skip to Rexar after killing the bear. There’s an area in the middle where you can stop and eat food to build your health back to full before finishing.

Waiting for your gift of titans CD to force a proc on next kill also helps tremendously with both Rexar AND Thrall. The sanity loss is negligible especially if you plan on dropping an orb on pull.
Wait until first boar spawns then pop all cds and drums to finish rexar off while gift is up.
Same with Thrall … drop an orb then pop cds on pull to melt boars while orb is up then get 20 secs of gift on thrall.

It’s the way it’s written. She is trying to say on the steps where you need 2 pages only do two zones in the vision as no point to doing a third.

It’s personal but I do 3 or more if I can as early as I can for the gear and essences on alts.

Some classes are more able than others for example my Enh Shaman alt melted the place compared to some other classes.

Two tips I can share:

  • RE: Mage District Void Walkers - Whether you kill them first or last will depend on how much Corruption you’re running. If you kill the Void Elf mobs first, you run the risk of eating Eye damage or a bad Thing from Beyond (or two or three) with the shadow debuff. If you have 40+ Corruption and no immunity mechanics, I suggest CC-ing the Void Elves and nuking the VWs first.
  • When you see Split Personality about to come up, move quickly to an open area if possible. The absolutely worst thing that can happen is being hemmed in by Split Personality while other mechanics that require you to hoof it are about to go off.

furytractor can definitely help with the visions… he was kind enough to assist me in a walkthrough of each vision, and now i can clear them both with one mask on. i could barely get past the first section of stormwind before he started helping me.

thanks, fury!

The biggest issue I see with players that don’t fully understand visions is that they will die to silly mechanics while try to go too far too fast. You can keep it simple and do two areas and be able to collect the crystal box. You’ll gain more mementos doing this because you get to kill the boss and you get to turn in the crystals. Not to mention, you get 150 more echoes doing this also.

I just see it as a “rush” mentality that doesn’t promote good visions when you get to masks. However, if you want to do 3 and can, then go for it if it works for you! My guide focused on keeping it simple and being effective.

Ok, try few times on vision of orgrimmar on last week before server reset, those 2 boss at the drag section really can cheese the mechanics by standing on top of it. But there is a caveat though, the final boss at the drag will always move away to keep a minimum distance from you, so you can only move and stack with him when he standstill and start casting void torrent.

About the rare mob at valley of spirit, after reading one of the article linked by furytractor on the first post, i actually able to find another rare mob if the rare mob does not present at valley of spirit. Like Gamon and blacksmith at the initial area, both are mutually exclusive. So if you can’t find that rare mob at valley of spirit, you can go to the transmog shop at the drag section, inside there is a portal device that is clickable, click it and summon a rare mob to be killed to gain 10% crit buff.

At stormwind, i find out that if the trade district’s bank vault does not opened, at the dwarven district when you first entered, turned left, there is a shop that had door opened, inside got a minefield that need to go through, but every time you step on the mine you will automatically teleported out to the front door, i still figure out the safe way to wade through it to check what the buff it gives.
