I have absolutely found my favorite version of wow in classic/vanilla and have been loving trying out all the phases in anniversary as I didn’t get to in 2019. But I would love to be able to take the character I’ve invested in and keep playing on vanilla when TBC rolls round. I’ll definitely try TBC but I’d love to know in advance where to invest time for my future collection goals.
I’m putting this post here in the hopes others can voice any interest they also have for cloning. And just in general to express that as a lover of the game I would be eternally appreciative if the developers would give any insights into plans so I can decide if I level another character on Era now or can just stick to anniversary and clone when the time comes.
Anniversary is progression. If you don’t want that, don’t play it. If you want to play classic era forever, play on classic servers. That is your only guarantee.
They allowed cloning in 2019 progression servers, they allowed cloning in season of mastery. They will allow cloning from anniversary as well, book it.
No, they allowed SoM characters to transfer to a selection of Era realms once SoM had ended.
These are two different ways of going tom A to B.
I think that if they allow anything - which I doubt as Anniversary was announced as a progressing realm - they will enable paid character transfer from Anniversary PvE to the main realm in the PvE cluster and same for PvP - same as from SoM.
What will happen to the HC server is a good question - I hope they’ll listen to poplular demand and progress it with the other Anniversary servers.
It’s quite simple. Blizzard have said Anniversary will be progression. Blizzard have said Anniversary is progressing to TBC.
Blizzard did NOT say a cloning service will be available. Blizzard did NOT say transfers will be available.
So based on what has been said and not said, don’t count on those services being available until such time as Blizzard actually announces them. Don’t come pissing and moaning if they don’t happen. They were never promised.
We’d love to have you join us on Era! Unfortunately there are no guarantees here, so I would keep that in mind moving forward. Blizzard has been very tight lipped about all things Anniversary since it launched, much to the dismay of its players.
Given where Anniversary is at right now, you might consider leveling a character on Era in prep, just in case you don’t get to transfer. There are plenty of guilds across all the servers that would be happy to have you. Here’s a few threads that shed some more light on Era’s realms/clusters, as well as some communities on the smaller realms if that’s your jam.
Keep a copy of Both DS and NS alive on “vanilla” and make the players select between Vanilla or TBC like they did in 2021 with the option to clone to the other with a very clearly arriculated time limit on the clone existence stated Clearly on the character page.
Additionally NS / DS realms retain their No-GDKP rules and all their gold buyers and their bots and their busted AH.
The biggest worry I’ve seen from them era folk is about the mass resources that anniversary players have amassed (legally and illegally) that would suddenly be introduced into the era economies.
2 years of accruing mats vs 6 years of accruing mats.
Mega server where you can’t farm anything in EPL, WPL, Winterspring, Silithus vs Server where you can farm whatever you want.
This is one worry. I find it would be unfair to folks farming on Era to have a sudden surge of illicit gold, buffed flower drops, and people with dual spec having a easier time farming on anniversary suddenly flooding the market.
The other worry is that Era gets a ton of rush rush rush players who end up AFKing in BGs and force the creation of new layers.
10k raiders is already a lot. It’s hard to see Era improving by flooding it with anniversary toons.
If they do allow it - it should at the very least be transfers not clones, and there should be caps on what is allowed to be brought over.
But I honestly think the best solution is just to give anniversary their own vanilla Era servers.
