I don’t know if this is a bug, but I cannot find a single other player mentioning the issue in this title.
I like mogging. Like many, I can spend hours working on a single outfit over the weeks. Tweak here. Tweak there. AH! Perfect-o! I have a good eye and I am good at matching a look and feel across pieces (comes from coin collecting- making matched sets).
I logged in and when I popped my yak to play with clothes… I noticed… almost none of my cloaks matched my mogs anymore. They are now rendered way darker than before. Hell you can look at a cloak in the dressing window and it renders lighter than when you apply and leave the transmogrifier…
I will add a screenshot of the same cloak on the same player in the same physical location at the same time of day pre and post 8.3 when I can log back in (game currently in maint.)
Of course, unless this patch is fixing the issue.
I hope pictures will show how much darker the cloak is rendered now… as if it were in it’s own, personal supply of shade. The color is the same, the alpha is now less.
I have noticed the same issue. It’s very weird, as it only applies to some of my characters using the same cloak / transmog. It’s really upsetting because the ONE bright white cloak I want for my Paladin is now much much darker than it was or is on other characters which completely ruins the look I"m going for. Sad.

I noticed the same thing and was left wondering why I had not seen anyone talking about it. It has been very apparent on my female draenei mage. I’ll include some examples of cloaks that look correct and some that are much darker than they used to be.
Correct appearance:
Barrage Dodger Cloak
Cloak of the Banshee Queen
Permafrost Cloak
Farstrider Wildercloak
Much darker cloaks since patch 8.3:
Splashcover Cloak
Impertinent Student’s Cloak
Tura’aka’s Clipped Wing
Drape of the Arcane Tempest
These are just a sampling of those that are darker. There are many more that appear darker in the dressing room than in the Appearances window.
I also noticed that occasionally the dressing room would show the correct appearance, but the actual transmog for those cloaks was always too dark.
Just an update. It is now August 16th and this issue still exists. I was wondering if this was a shadow issue since the under side of the cloak looks fine but the back (most visible) side is quite dark. this may be as easily fixed by removing shadows on cloaks. But it could also be more complicated of course.
The main reason for updating this post is the inability to transmogrify cloaks any more. I haven’t had a cloak on certain races in ages. this isn’t from lack of want, its from the inability to make my character look correct. I would love more options for transmogrify, but right now cloaks are ruined for me.

I hope they fix this issue. I still have a dozen ruined mogs that were neat!
Yes this has been happening for a while on me. I main a Draenei female and it always happens on medium sized cloaks of every color. I have played with every system setting and graphics setting. It actually appears the cloak shading is just inside out. The cloak is darker on the back side and light like it should be on the inside underneath. You would expect otherwise. Always been annoying and surprised I haven’t seen this issue come up before. Every time I try to search for if there is a fix to this bug I end up just finding posts about cloak of shadows bugs… lol.
I just wanted to pop back in here and say that this issue has been resolved as of 9.0.1 Shadowlands pre-patch.
And my cloak-crazy toons could not be happier. Some of my favorite mogs that had been incomplete for 10 months are now back on… my BACK!
