so, while the last ranks only require 2 pages, so you cna complete in one run. previous ranks such as rank 9 requires 4 pages (which can be done in one run by doing all the zones) but this brings me to the main topic.
sure its doable with a low lvl cloak, maybe some decent gear, but you also have to have the momento tree pretty decked out too (at least to elite sanity restoration). which ofc a catchup wouldnt have, lvling a new alt myself i noticed this. ranked up faster than i got momentos (even doing raids ofc and collecting the 800 you get a week from those).
so while they added catchup mechanics for the cloak, they never nerfed how many momentos it takes to get a full archive
also make the rain stone infinite charges and increase its droprate or something!, i love rain
sadly this catchup is useless for new toons with empty tree (tested myself lol)

It’s hard before you get elite exterminator and you’re more likely than not to spend a couple of extra vessels. That said, it’s not impossible and the same gate keeping (mementos) was there before the change.
yeah, i was thinking maybe if i had the 200 elite sanity i could probably do a full clear, even with my rank 8 cloak. but sadly i dont. my only hopeful thought right now is that theyre gonna make a sudden announcement like “whoops we forgot to add catchup to the tree, so we reduced its costs by half” tomorrow. but im just getting my hopes up lol

good thing is that you can buy vessels pretty cheap with echoes and you earn back a fair amount when you do some runs. I really wish they had lowered the memento cost of the tree or made it account wide though. visions aren’t really fun until you’re at rank 11+ and or having elite exterminator or further.

yeah, im there now since i got my essences. ended up skipping a corruption i rly wanted (bis stuff) but its whatever itll be back, just hope i got enough for 3 severe when it pops around
dont forget you can skip the first two scenarios, gotta do bwd and the second halls sadly though
The reason they didn’t lower memento requirements for the Archive is because it would lead to players starting to bank mementos earlier. And since mementos lead to socketed gear (and cosmetics) they probably felt the need to keep that last gate in place.
I’m sure if the mementos only led to cosmetic items, they would have adjusted the costs of research as well.
yeah but i feel the main reason it was so tedious is just to give a good time length for world first guilds/high end mythic guilds. so theyre not progressing too fast, a little time gate to get better stuff.
were pretty much in the end game now just waiting for shadowlands. if anything it would give 2 sockets at most if they reduced the cost, which is literally whatever, and can be seen as a catchup in itself
Yeah not saying it makes a lot of sense. But Blizzard seems to care about not letting some things happen in terms of power (essences, sockets) while letting other things spiral out of control (corruptions).
I’d be surprised if they do anything other than the GW nerf for any of the other corruptions that will be stacked. Not sure what they’re guarding at this point.
the enigma of ion hazzikostas mind. i know as a indie game designer/dev myself i wouldnt go this route. from all logical and out of the box views, it doesnt make alot of sense. just no good counter reason to not to at this point
It’s hard, like really hard, but not impossible.
I managed to do r8, 9 and 10 without Elite Exterminator each in a single run as Unholy. But it was a very close call each time, in fact during the r8 run Rexxar died a couple of seconds after I did but it still counted since I was still inside the instance during Mother’s extraction animation.
Run Ny’alotha LFR from the 2nd wing to the 3rd wing fresh. There are minibosses that will drop Corrupted Memento tokens. I believe there are three or four of them that drop 200 mementos each. Completely perfect for a catchup mechanism.
They drop that much on Heroic. If I remember correctly, it’s only 100 for normal. So it must be even lower for LFR. Also, 200 is so little. Barely makes a dent in my pile of 60k mementos.
They drop 200 mementos even on LFR. Unless you can link me to hotfix notes that recently changed that.
