I play on a macbook pro with admittedly low specs. That said, I could raid Undermine with a decent frame rate pre 11.1.5. Now, after 11.1.5 my client slows to a crawl, like 1 frame per second. It is unplayable. I gave it a little time because these things happens around patches but it still hasn’t improved. Is anyone else seeing this?
Performance is worse yes. There’s still the freeze bug, and they left addon profiling forced on with no option to disable it. Addon profiling absolutely impacts performance significantly.
Freeze bug is the most annoying thing ever…
And i literally had a brain hemorrhage when I read they had perma enabled the profiling
Check WA/Addons. They can easily be the reason things are bad.
Not on a Mac myself, but I get game freezes now that I never had before. But that’s been a thing since the Windows update a couple months back. I’ve done full UI resets, reinstalled the game, everything.
Every single update since 11.0 has degraded game performance in some shape or form. The fact its being ignored tells me they don’t have a simple solution for it, and I suspect 12.0 will either fix it or make it a whole lot worse.
You guys get the pop up everytime you start wow about bios being out of date? I think it’s a windows pop up but not sure. That’s annoying too
no such issue on an m2 macbook air. pc is buttery as ever.
The freeze bug is completely unacceptable, why is this not priority 1 for them to fix
Yeah, I’ve been sadly watching my performance degrade with every update as well. I know aging hardware is always a factor, but it’s definitely getting pushed along by software updates as well.
I know this is annoying but can you test with addons disabled? Then with WA enabled, then with everything else? I feel some perf impact but we need to isolate the root cause.
There’s a bug in the game that causes weakauras and other things that use custom sounds to cause a freeze. We’ve identified that one. I’m pretty convinced part of it is combat log addon related too. But to be clear here, I do not believe it’s the fault of any of the addons but rather some bug introduced into the game.
Unfortunately, running without my weakauras that have custom sounds would be crippling to me. Audio cues are so important in my gameplay for noticing the million things going on in the average pull as healer or tank I don’t think I could pull it off otherwise.
Do you have triple buffering on? If not, might want to turn it on.
When disabled my frame rate nose dives to 20+fps even in old zones.
Went through all of this. Definitely not the culprit for me. Even used Revo Uninstaller to uninstall and wipe every single hidden WoW file, went with a clean install, no addons, no leftover files anywhere… still freezing up at times.
Two things that did help some for me:
- Went down to Direct X 11
- Dropped Depth and Compute Effects to low
But I have to now shut down Bnet, not run a web browser, Discord or anything else on my second monitor. Windows really messed things up.
same here, it’s been noticeable. i hope the issue is identified soon.
what’s that?
i’m on mac and also get the stuttering occasionally. no weakauras
It’s a setting under Graphics. What it does depends on who is implementing it.
Since last last patch I had to turn it on or my frame rate tanks hard.
It’s not just you. It has something to do with the forced addon rotation thing. I have a beast of a computer. In every game I play I get well over 120fps at max settings. Several games I get 200+. Wow… 30 since the update. It’s abysmal and the addon manager is the culprit. I’ve tried several things and they do help but it keeps getting set back to original without any change from me. It’s really game breaking and basically the reason I’ve kinda just started playing other games. Till they fix it it isn’t worth it. If they don’t fix it by next week I’m just gonna cancel my subscription. It’s not worth the aggravation when there are 40000 other games that don’t do this.
i am running an older laptop and have also had a ton of problems.
I highly recommend quazii’s youtube video on improving FPS.
I made pretty much all the changes he suggests. I am thinking that one setting in particular was a problem. there is a graphics setting that indicates a target FPS.
it seems that your computer and the blizz client attempt to cooperate to get your frame rate up no matter the consequences to other resources. I think that can cause some element of the computer - RAM, graphics card, something else? i am no tech guy lol - to be overwhelmed and the system to freeze or crash.
anyway, he offers several such adjustments that I think have helped me go ~30fps to ~140fps. and I don’t seem to experience much other than a screen hiccup here and there.
I also deleted the addons weak auras, hekili and rarity.
a couple of dungeon moments that were reliably crashy seem to work just fine.
On a side note, I wonder if we can have an alternative water shader.
The current one is quite expensive (for me) on Good and High but on Fair, it looks kind of bad.
I don’t get how WoW has worse looking water than a game like Far Cry 3 which is nearly 20 years old and ran on consoles which had like 512MB of RAM total and roughly 50GB/s of memory bandwidth.
