Clearcasting

Why does this feel so much worse compared to legion. Almost go oom trying to fish for a proc

ST arcane now is even worst than in BFA

Any mage you talk to will gladly recollect stories of going oom upwards of 6-10 times just trying to get a few stacks for a good totm burst combo. Arc relies heavily on RNG to deal their greatest damage and unlike the other specs which have tools in their kits to nudge the rng in their favor at dire moments, arc has no such ability.

Arcane has to have stable burst and no rng. PLZ back CD burst to 1.5 min CD

Agreed. A certain degree of RNG is fine, I mean, its common wow; everyone has a little randomness here n there. But everyone also has stuff they can do to push the bar when its needed.

Some ideas that could help arc is giving arcane explosion double chance to proc CC charges. Going into melee range was also a trade-off for damage as arcane. Its risky, you’re moving, youre often out of position, you’re often in danger - and the payoff is not worth it. Whilst this would be less than impressive, it would open up a lot of ways to consider approaching situations where you need cc charges.

Another idea would be doubling the chance to generate clearcasting whenever a spell critically strikes.

Another is giving the arcane mage a buff that lasts for 6 seconds after casting arcane barrage, and for the duration your chance to generate clearcasting is doubled. This kind of change would provide some synergy because if you have to move or reposition in an encounter, you could close up your damage with a barrage and then maybe pom while running and having a better chance for clearcasting while moving - which would work fluidly with slipstream. And if you don’t have slipstream you can at least save the clearcast charges for your next opportunity.

Pretty much any spell or ability at all that would push the rng in the mages favor would be better than what we have now. They can program it however they want, but I think every arc mage would appreciate that.

In Legion, missiles were on their own proc system and, from what little bit I played arcane in SL, proc’d much more frequently than clearcasting does.

The whole “cc proc fishing” was one of the many reasons I walked away from arcane (again). Just not an enjoyable gameplay style.

I still think current Arcane is better than it was in BfA, though to be fair most classes felt like poo to play there. Legion felt better a little better, at least for AoE with the legendary. Personally though WoD Arcane was the best it has been in a long time. AM felt good to cast, and the 2/4pc bonuses made the spec feel much more smooth. Fewer convoluted systems and just a better feeling rotation. Also felt like you were actually compensated for being an immobile turret spec…

Because in legion it was a flat proc chance instead of being tied to mana spent, which is why stuff like the quickening build worked. Also, arcane missiles was only castable with the proc, but it at least scaled with arcane charges and was our hardest hitting ST spell.

It all changed in BFA when they made arcane missiles always castable and removed its scaling with arcane charges. It could no longer stack up to 3, was also tied to explosion, and the proc system was changed to the one we have now where it procs based on mana spent.

IMO, BFA was the single most disastrous expansion for Arcane, at least design-wise. They left it in a half-finished state after their infamous mistake with the mana adept talent encouraged a literal 1-button rotation for most of beta. Then they tried to patch it up with the equipoise azerite power and made zero changes to the spec for the entire expansion.

Shadowlands continues the trend of Blizzard leaving arcane in an unfinished state. Just look at the spell alert visual for clearcasting. It doesn’t even stack up like it did in legion. Then there’s the issue with the mana gem not working like the healthstone, needing to be deleted so you can conjure a new one to refill the charges. Then of course there’s barrage returning half of the mana advertised on the tooltip. How things like make it through testing to release is beyond me.

How I would fix arcane:

  • Revert clearcasting to legion version.
  • Make mana gem into an actual spell with a cooldown and 3 charges, or remove it and rebalance spell costs appropriately.
  • Delete the reverberate and supernova talents, and move resonance and NT to the 45 row to make it an AoE-focused row.
  • Make the 35 row focus on touch of the magi.
    • Touch of Aluneth (Passive): Your touch of the magi no longer accumulates damage and will instead deal damage based on your maximum mana.
    • Wrath of the Magi (Passive): Your touch of the magi has its duration extended by 2-seconds every time your spells critically strike (can only occur once per spell cast to prevent missiles and explosion from infinitely extending).
    • Lucidity (Passive): Clearcasting is permanently active for the duration of touch of the magi.
    • These provide options to adjust your stat priority by adding options to specialize in mastery, crit, or haste for the duration of touch of the magi.

are you serious? ST arcane is so awfull. Fishing procs, no RoP for last 3 seconds of AP. Only good thing for Arcane in SL is AoE lt’s so much better than in BFA

They need to remove Clearcasting being tied to Arcane Explosion. Let us at least go from AOE spam into a x3 missle burst.
