SOrry for making another thread. I am just curious as to what I can delete in my wow folder without deleting the important stuff? I heard doing this can help decrease loading times, and wanted to give it a shot.
I don’t want to delete something thats going to make me lose addons/settings, etc… but stuff like screenshots I can delete without issue, I heard cache is possibly one as well?
Any help appreciated ty!
its probably the other way tho the more cache u got the faster u load things

I delete the cache folder every patch. I think it can build up with cruft and may cause issues.
Your settings are in the WTF folder. Most of it will be recreated on login but you’ll lose addon settings if you delete it.

I’ve been playing since vanilla and have had a few uninstalls in my lifetime playing the game, but I’ve never ever deleted the cache folder, not once.
So if I delete the cache folder in my retail folder:
I won’t lose any of my settings in anything, right?
It’s possible doing this will make loading screens faster and help with performance?
What about people who say the opposite? Doing so could hurt loading times due to having to reload stuff to the cache folder?
That’s what I’m wondering.
No… A cache is a temporary storage. The system will recreate it at the next startup and start building a cache of objects as you play.
Ideally, the cache will make your game quicker as more of it is loaded into memory. However, if you have things cached that you no longer need, then it can cause the game to slow down.
These things you no longer need could be objects in old expansions or dungeons that aren’t relevant. Unneeded cache items are cruft and should be removed. You can’t tell what that object is by looking at the directory so deleting it all and allowing it to start over can speed up your game for a time.
However, if you’re always deleting the cache then you will lose its benefits. That is why I do it on patches…
As the others are saying, definitely stay away from your WTF folders if you don’t want to go through and reconfigure everything in painstaking detail. Even your macros are kept in this folder.
and only time you do the wtf folder is when you can not load in the game and something was not installed right
