Good afternoon all! I have been extremely curious of what is the most popular/least popular class and race played in retail WoW. However, I can not find any reputable up to date sources. Anyone able to assist?

That is because there are no reputable sources. Blizz purposely broke the API to prevent people from gathering those numbers.
One class statistic you can see is the number of each class/spec running M+, but that gives no information regarding race and does not include players that do not run M+.
For a long time it’s been Monks as least played class.
See, that’s unfortunate that they purposely blocked that information. I have been wanting to see the overall statistics not just in mythic plus
