Hey guys, I’ve been playing WoW classic on Alliance for a while and im thinking about getting into Horde for the first time since classic’s release.
A weird quality that I have is that I don’t like playing the same race a bunch of times, I don’t want to have 10 different orc characters so I often spread out my class combos.
Anyways my question is this; I am debating what to make my warrior and my shaman. If I decide to go with an Orc Warrior, I will then make a Tauren shaman. Likewise, If I go with a Tauren Warrior, I will then make an Orc Shaman.
I know im over thinking this but in your opinion, which of the two combos should I go with? Any opinion, whether It’d be based on lore, aesthetics, or gameplay performance is welcome. I really appreciate any feedback.
Of the two combos, where you only had to choose a race, then play orc warrior and tauren shaman.
Warriors get so much benefit from the +Weapon skill. Like, if orcs ONLY had this skill as their racial, they’d STILL be the best PVE race. For swords to compete, you’d need like an edgemasters. So the second you make an undead or tauren warrior, you’d need to dump 6k to compete with ORc axe skill.
There’s the situational bloodfury which is more useful to warriors than enhance shamans.
Then there’s hardiness which benefits both pretty well TBH.
An ORC shaman has really no PVE advantages. Maybe if you’re enhancement you’d use bloodfury and axe skill too, but enhancement is rare so it’d see little use.
The only context in which you’d want an orc shaman would be PVP because Stun resist is soo good on ALL classes. Helps deal with melee especially. But I feel the PVP applications of a tauren shaman’s war stomp and + HP almost makes up for it.
I almost feel the orc stun resist would benefit warriors even more since warriors are known to be extra vulnerable to CC, and the orc stun resist helps alot with that. As a shaman, you’re more likely to be in the back where its more safe and you’re not completely useless if you’re being kited.
However, there’s nothing close that a tauren can offer a PVE warrior that would be even close to the +5 weapon skill. that 5% HP? Just wear a bit more stam. But if you want weapon skill you’re legit limited to a few items.
Orcs look cooler IMO. Big cool warrior shoulders but better model proporations everywhere else. But this is subjective only to me. You might think looking like a big rampaging bull swinging a huge sword and stomping everyone to be cooler
yeah but the urge to be better is always there, that’s why you have edgemasters
@op
tauren shaman has some positives, while it doesn’t have stun resist it has warstomp which allows you to cast something if someone is on you (if u are ele that 1 cast can be devastating), meanwhile a tauren warrior is kind of outclassed in every fashion by the orc and would take a heavy heavy amount of gold to make “good”
Yes, there is an urge to optimize, but framing the race choice around a mandatory 6k gold expense “just to compete” is completely ridiculous. Edgemaster’s will boost overall dps of a dps warrior by about 4.3%. That’s the highest boost for the slot and nothing to scoff at. The next runners up is GoA which will boost overall dps by about 3.6%, and after that is flameguards for roughly 2.5% more overall dps. All of this is ignoring that ACL is far and away the BiS gloves for daggers; and daggers are good for tanking and dps.
Another massive exaggeration. In a PvP setting, I’ll take the Tauren or UD warrior any day of the week. In a tanking situation, now that gear is laden with hit chance, I’ll take the Tauren without edgemaster’s over the orc as well. The orc warrior’s niche is as a dps because that’s when all their racials benefit them the most. Even then, trolls are becoming the warrior meta because of berserking.
The framing of what makes a warrior good, or what is required to do good dps or be a good warrior tank is classic has been completely obfuscated by the speedrunning meta. If you don’t plan to down BWL is less than 20 minutes some day, just pick what you like and play it.
But you also have to consider this in the context of this thread. The thread isnt “are tauren warriors good or bad”?
It’s essentially “Orc warrior vs Taurent warrior” and “Orc shaman vs tauren shaman”.
We dont know OP other than he only wants one of each race. So to not talk about the differences however small they might be isn’t helping OP.
So yes, edgemasters isnt “needed”, but if you get a “free edgemasters” everytime you rolled orc, why wouldnt you? We dont know the OP’s personal tastes so we can only assume he wouldn’t care about flavour, lore, or looks of each race. And even if he did, we should at least let him know what he’s missing out on if he did choose looks/flavour over performance.
Answers like “just play what you want!” or “play what you enjoy!” are completely useless answers because the whole point is to help OP figure what he does want to play in the first place.
Which means that dps isn’t the only metric under discussion, but if the discussion is being boiled down to bloodfury and weapon skill, it means everything outside of raid dps is being ignored. Rereading the OP, the context of this thread is very much about them playing what they like; an orc or a tauren.
Good thing I explained the exact value of using edgemasters and bothered to mention PvP and tanking alongside dps.
Yes, but what does OP like? So again, a non-answer.
OP even mentioned he wanted to have performance affect his decision.
“…based on lore, aesthetics, or gameplay performance is welcome”
So thanks for breaking down the actual benefit and gearing options in that hands slot; it helps in giving OP the exact differences and benefit of the axe skill and it’ll help him in his decision
It’s not a non-answer, it’s the best answer when coupled with information. What the OP learned from this thread will affect what they like. Again, “performance” goes beyond raid dps numbers.
you’re right. Thats why I listed other scenarios too. Ie. PVP.
The reason why its a useless answer is because it’s circular.
“Hey, help me decide on what to play! What do you guys think I’d like playing?”
“just play what you like!”
See how useless of an answer this is? Since OP didnt really give anymore specifics, I tried to touch on a bunch of areas but honestly, it looks like orc warriors are at least the best (even marginally) given how common they are in the meta. It’d be a big disservice to OP if you didnt mention that since he’d eventually be curious why there’s so many compared to other races.
That’s like a saying a screw is useless. On it’s own, yes a screw is useless. If you couple a screw with a screwdriver, it’s immensely useful. Telling someone to play what they like isn’t useless when you couple it with information about the things they can play. It’s literally the best answer for this game after information on what to expect in the game has been provided.
If your concerned about this Orc Warrior is the best Warrior choice possible Horde side, best of both worlds PvP and PvE.
Now if you really prefer the Tauren Aesthetic (your crazy) then roll Tauren Warrior. and if your choosing Shaman still Orc for the Stun resist in PvP and Axe skill in PvE if you want to be enhance.
Ultimately pick w/e you like the look of more, but Objectively Orc Warrior is best, and for Shaman doesnt really matter until you get into specifics.
Stun resist is entirely RNG and shamans pvp trinket already removes stun, warstomp is guaranteed useful in any fight and gives shaman access to an AoE stun that can be used either offensively or defensively on a class that has no peels or oh s*** buttons
Warstomp is way better
The whole “hurr durr orc for everything” thing is such a meme, its just parroted by people that don’t ACTUALLY play shaman
personally, I’d make a tauren shamen and orc warrior.
I’ve done both around Cata. The whole “big warrior wielding a huge weapon” thing has already gotten old for me. I felt my tauren shamen was nicer since it’s not just your character performing animations. The addition of elemental magic really spices things up and adds longevity as far as visual freshness goes.
When I actually logged into modern WoW, I’d basically be using an appearance changing toy all the time.
