Classless Hunters

Once again, while taming a rare spawn (Arcturis) another classless hunter feels the need to shoot him with his pets out, showing that there was no intent of ever taming the rare… Hopefully karma comes back around. Continuing this simply means more hunters will continue camping the same spot, making it less likely that you’ll get it too. I once again renew my request for hunter pets to be account wide, especially with the realm crunching. Would work like battle pets.

I am sorry this happened friend. That’s extremely frustrating. However I disagree with you about pets being account wide. Those pets are special and for a reason. Difficult to obtain and when you do it leaves you with a satisfying feeling of appreciation and accomplishment. This is something modern wow lacks compared to days of old. Best of luck taming in the future friend.

Cool story bro. Pretty much every hunter have a similar experience. You have a better chance of a GM response in the support forum. The hunter forum are just full of “troll” :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I remember a time when an unspoken code of honor existed among Hunters that went beyond faction. When I tamed Arcturis years ago A Blood Elf Hunter had arrived just as I had begun the tame. He stood and let the tame finish and then /cheer to myself and my new tame. It was actually frowned upon to deny another hunter of their tame. Just goes to show how much the “community” in this game has declined. I can only hope a sense of honor will re emerge in Classic. I am sorry this happened to you and I hope you will cross paths with Arcturis soon.

Your are naive if you think “honor” is a trait in most players of a video game. People play a game for their own enjoyment and some people enjoy denying other things such as a pet tame.

As the great Alfred Pennyworth once said.

Some men aren’t looking for anything logical, like money. They can’t be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Whats the point of making a thread about this.

Then let me rephrase. The modern retail player base in WoW is toxic garbage compared to the type of player from a decade ago. Seems everyone now is a sh*tlord who’s enjoyment comes at the expense of others or just spewing nonsense in global channels.

Actually, years ago hunters used to help and support each other. There was none of this trolling garbage they do now when you’re trying to tame a rare. We all waited our turn happily and patiently. As Romullar said above, the Hunter code went beyond faction. We all knew how dedicated we had to be to tame these rare creatures, so we wouldn’t ever dare interfere in another’s hunting endeavors. Even non-hunters wouldn’t interfere with a rare tame. It was very much frowned upon as mentioned.

The community as a whole was much better in the early days. Everyone was happy to help each other. This is an MMO, we are meant to play as a community, but they have basically turned WoW into a single player friendly game. Everyone gets everything handed to them for the most part now and it turns everyone into spoiled entitled brats with no sense of comradery.

I’m sorry this happened to you. I know how disheartening it can be. Good luck, friend!

They don’t understand. This is one of the things that made the game great back in the day.

You guys are romanticizing the hell out of the “early” days. The community was just as toxic.

Wrong. People used to help each other a hell of a lot more back then. I used to have random people stop and give me stuff they didn’t need all the time. Now if you ask for help you get made fun of for not being able to solo something or get referred to Google. No one can be bothered with anyone anymore.

It’s not romanticizing at all. Sure you had toxic players, but they were kept in check. The population of good people outweighed any troublemakers. Without sharding and cross server nonsense how you behaved dictated how your experience would be. Most people who were trolls or ninjas were notorious and pretty much blacklisted by most guilds and groups. Nowadays people can act like a jackass and have no consequences.

Its the internet. That has always been the case. Ill cede your point that server specific playerbases make for a player run community and less toxicity.

This is how I was able to tame Lok’~ my spirit beast. A person in the zone saw it and messaged me to come tame it. I don’t remember who you are random person but I’m thankful for you

No. When doing the questline for Rhok’Delar and Lok’Delar and fighting the various demons, other hunters would respectfully wait their turn, and cheer you on while you fought. I did the same, and cheered them on. It was a really cool and unexpected aspect of those fights. It went beyond faction. Now I’ve given up on some rare tames because I know I’ll be griefed. Cross-realms really messed the community and servers up in this respect. Like others have stated, your reputation mattered back then, because you were all one realm and one community.

The ratio of disruptive players may differ, but tame killing (and general arseholery) was absolutely something that happened in the early days of WoW. To say otherwise, is complete and utter ignorance.

I remember so many times of the case that Arcturis was tame killed in the relevant content (WotLK).

Just because people have been sheltered in communities that have sheltered them, doesn’t necessarily make bad things not happen.

As for honour and respect in a video game… Players will do what they enjoy! Some may enjoy allowing others respect, and help. Some will have fun ganking afk’ers and tame killing.

Who are you to say that aspect of the game (which is available), is wrong.

Well a decade ago when WOW was at it infancy there was no cross realm like it is today. The realm you play are much smaller in population and there were repercussion to your actions; I remember people having reputation attach to their character. There use to be a list where you know who a “camper” or a “ninja looter”.
I think with the introduction of cross realm these type of negative attachment are meaningless since you will most likely not see them again due to the realm phasing in and out.
My advice is just roll with the punch and move, the game has evolve and there are little to no “honor” outside your guild and friends.

Amazingly, the cross section in game is not unlike that in the real world as things gave changed out there (quite similarly) over the last 10 years. Sad but true. Honor and codes of conduct were typical. Hm.

The is a Hunter Guild just for this, if you want to join we would be happy to help you tame Arctiurus

Am I the only one who remembers that Blazz changed pet loot tables because people would kill rare tames? This happened so often Blizz took action that should say something.
