"Classless" character? Would it work?

Do you think that it would ever work if Blizzard added the choice of leveling a hybrid character but without picking a specific class? Like skyrim system - you level the skills you want at your pace. Imagine the possibility of being a battlemage with ironclad armor, a lightvest marksman with some healing, and so on. Am I dreaming too much?

I mean, it worked in Star Wars Galaxies, but that was a sandbox, as opposed to WoW’s theme park. The game, I think, is too on the rails for a classless system to work in it.

I think there are a lot of things Blizzard could do to add depth. Dual classing for example is one of them. Even having a free-form skill system where you build your character through choice and create an unnamed class that falls into your own choice of archetypes.

The issue is that nothing seems to persist between expansions. If the did, each class would have multiple sub classes associated with it. I would personally like to see the class system go somewhere closer to Pathfinder / D&D. Where players can make good and poor builds, butt there are so many options with synergies that it is hard to pin point a specific meta.

While I like that kind of system, I can’t see it working within the Warcraft setting… just too much"history" to overcome.

Everyone would just be same “correct” class. Remember this is a game where people would sell a kidney to do 1% more damage.

So we’d basically be onion knights?

I think class halls blocked that idea.

They’d probably pick a few classes.

Eve is classless so I’d see no issues here. In eve my main does it all.

Logistics (healer)

E WAR (puts out lots of CC…its not there to kill things, its there to make people’s lives miserable lol)

Straight up combat. From frigate to Capitals. I want something like melee dps…I go cruisers (variants) to frigate. Need something tanky? Hop in a battleship. Need something really tanky? dreadnought.

Good point so there’s be 4 classes. One ranged, one melee, one healer and one tank.

Or if they were to go down this path, redo healing and tanking as well so that whether you can heal or tank effectively depends on your skills chosen.

(to use the EVE analogy, use a strategic cruiser)

which even while flexible had limits. So some balance there.

LIke what rigs you have on it. Why I had several of the same t3 cruisers. Rigs chosen for tasks. One did have very generic rigs. But with general setup came the offset of it didn’t excel at at anything either. Still very useful to be general.

That was the lets go roam new areas and see thats out there. Didn’t know what I’d face. So generally good was better than really good in one area and trash in 3 other things.

Ah yes, dh eyebeam, paladin bubble, cheat death, stagger, bone armor, deathstrike, disc priest attonement, mortal strike, with totems and beastial rage warlock summons.

What could go wrong?
