That’s really unfortunate, but also possibly a lot of core programming roles that often times companies regard as “dead weight” for a lack of better terms. I don’t know the makup of Blizzard’s roster at that point, but it’s indeed plausible.
While I personally don’t enjoy it, I feel that the ones who actually try and plan for these games should be the ones who grew up trying to play games like D&D and Diablo.
The ones who typically avoided those games are also the ones who didn’t get what others found good about it and it is those qualities that made WoW great in Classic and TBC where their problems were more along the lines of balance issues and poor itemization compared to later where the game ran smooth but the overall fun and feel were crap.
