So I’ve been wondering what people think blizzard plans for classic are. Because I kinda see this going 1 of 3 ways.
1- they condense servers and just reset them 4-5 months (maybe more idk) after the finally phase gets released treat classic as a league with seasons maybe some sort of title or pet that you get for having progressed though everything.
2- everything gets transfer over to BC servers I find this unlikely but possible would cost them less money to have two servers with teams managing them.
3- new content for classic. Maybe there’s some things that might of been cut from vanilla that could be added in dungeons, raid, etc.
I ask this because I have concerns about if blizzard actually intends to keep these servers up. At the end if the day this is blizzard we’re talking about and they aren’t going to support something that cost them money. As long as the cost of keeping and maintaining the servers doesn’t outweigh subs from people playing on them I think they may keep them up but nothing is guaranteed.
Well you’ve got atleast another year before you need to worry… probabaly much more for the average player.
I’m not sure why blizzard hasnt invented this yet, but cryotubes.
Essentially you freeze your character and all its possessions in a location and then move into a new server where you continue all the content. Depending how the servers are, everyone on one server or multiple based off population zone into a new server and essentially classic is kept static away from BC while nothing is lost.
That way you can still hop back and forth from expansions without introducing any problems.
Dont know what the coding would be like for this or if it’s even possible but it’s the best of both worlds. People can choose to stay or leave behind the past. And they can also visit one another. While neither dimension affects the other in a meaningful way.
Not interested in throwing away all my progress over multiple 60’s with a BC classic. Copying my characters to BC servers? Fine. That’s the only way I’d even consider it.
I don’t see Blizz merging any BC content into classic anyway. I really don’t.
They won’t reset servers, or move everyone to BC. The reason people left PServers for classic is because we know our characters and our progress aren’t going anywhere. But what I think would be interesting is having new fresh servers with no phases. Everything available at “launch”. It would be cool to see how long it takes to clear Naxx. Now that’s a race imo, not this MC “world first” garbage with level 55’s in greens.
This would be a race indeed. Maybe have a setup similar to PoE where they have the standard classic servers and a league one with some sort of new mechanic bosses have more hp or hit hard, perma death, etc
It would have be on separate servers though. Not everyone wants that. They should for sure make that an option though after phase 6. I personally would rather see unreleased classic content like Karazhan and stuff, but a seasonal classic would be neat too
I’d say maybe they should release TBC leveling servers, where you can level a character to 60 months before the launch of TBC. Therefore, when it releases, your 60(s) can enter outland. Keep classic seperate
Whatever the plan is, they SHOULD have something at this year’s blizzcon whether it be inquiries on what players would like to see or the direction in which they want to take classic. I mean at that point we’ll be in phase 5 at least.
As for what I’d personally like to see is them drop a TBC classic with TBC in its phase 1 while the initial game has all 6 phases released.
I would LOVE if they continued classic content vs releasing TBC. I really hope Blizz doesnt split Classic/TBC severs as that would fracture the community we have built over the last half year. Takes risks Blizzard! Show me a new raid tier, give us new dungeons, make your customers happy again!
I’m 32.3% repeating of course certain we will be sent to bc. No separate classic and bc servers. Every is going to find out how “unprepared” they are.
No separate servers.
No character copies.
Nothing.
Play tbc or don’t play.
Look at blizzard since classic came out and legit tell me you think they’d maintain two separate versions of the game like that. I fully expect they will take the easiest route and force everyone in to TBC.
Yeah, the odds are in favor of straight TBC expantion. Its less risk and all reward to release TBC. I’m content with that, but like I said earlier, I want new content (and I didn’t like TBC that much, I don’t wanna explore space with goat people). But when this does happen, when would it stop? People play Classic due to Retail not being the MMO they want. Do we stop at TBC? Wrath? Do we go back to panada land?
1: minimal information on anything. They do some panels on art and making it and give us ion style answers for any questions on the q&a that the forums will spin in to crazy stuff they never said.
2: they announce tbc, classic + etc.
3: they announce naxx/aq depending where we are on content at that point and let us sit with naxx till next blizzcon which is entirely possible (looking at you WoD.)
I’m trying to understand this one - wouldn’t that just be the launch of TBC? Would BE and Dranei not be released with it? The only thing missing from what you say would be the first end-game raid content and pvp. Basically the release of classic (although classic had ony and mc).
To answer OP: My preferred future is leave classic as is. TBC servers release locked to only starting fresh from 1 for 2 months, for server stability. Then Blizzard implements a character into classic, not unlike Chromie, sits in your capital city (Org or SW) near the portal trainers, who can provide a one-way one-time free server transfer for your 60 to a TBC server. You can choose to stay or go, but you cannot come back once you go. Again, just my preferred method.
I say 2 months locked, restricted to fresh lvl 1s only because when TBC came out, servers were already established, with their own economies, people ranging from 1-60, people starting fresh, aka the servers were already fleshed out. the 2 month starting period would allow this to happen organically, not 3000 lvl 60s popping in and destroying the economy before it begins. Not only that, a 2 month restriction would encourage new players to hop aboard.
Yes release TBC with dreani and blood elves, everything, but you can’t reach outland. This might give everyone an idea of how the population will and ways address imbalances. Everyone loves a fresh start as well
Honestly thats the billion dollar question. Where do they stop. Classic, BC, and WotLK are usually regarded as the best 3 and cata is where it went downhill. As someone who played vanilla to BfA I share that sentiment.
They could do separate servers for each xpac letting people play what they want. This will split the community big time. Also, more money they spend on maintaining servers. Imo, this option would destroy classic due to the balance changes in tbc.
We progress through WotLK. They release a cinematic of Chronormu tossing her red button in the air and she fumbles it -cut to black screen- Chromie: “uh oh”. We all zap back to day one classic and start over. They would give us a timeline of like 6 mo-1 year past last raid being cleared is when it would happen.
They leave it at wotlk and give those of us who don’t mind starting over (mostly pserver players) seasonal servers that would restart on the same timeline of classic-wotlk.
Or they release separate servers for each xpac (Thru wrath) and make the previous versions seasonal leaving just a few fir those who don’t want to restart.
Or the most unlikely imo… Classic +. If Classic + is going to happen then they should have started working on it already. My only worry there is retail era devs adding to a classic version game. I would not be surprised if they announce it like they did classic without a lick of work started on it yet though.
I played BC too… and preferred Wrath. Flying mounts are a mistake that Blizzard admitted many times over.
Go ahead and create the BC servers… I’ll play classic and when phase 6 is done and Naxx is on farm status I’ll cancel my account… much like it was cancelled for the last few years prior to classic launch.
I came back for classic… not BC, not Wrath, not Cata… not Pandaland… classic.
Blizzard is smart enough not to throw Classic away in the trash. They will keep it alive as long as they have subscribers (that doesnt mean they wont screw something up that leads to unsubscribers though). So I dont see them just stopping after WoTLK if we have the player base if they go that route. The best way to keep this Classic community alive is to realese new content.
Beating a dead horse here, but Jagex did just that with Runescape. They have basically 2 MMOs, Runescape3 and Old School Runescape, all with their own unique player bases. They release new content in RS3 and new content in OSRS. Blizzard should learn from them.
