I wish Blizzard would restrict addon’s to the type, functionality, and restriction in information gathering (gear score, IO, information people gather that is used to easily create databases that will ultimately be used to excluded people) we had in Vanilla. Addon’s like DBM, recount, weak aura’s, Carbonite, etc should be broken.

This was the worst type of addon they ever allowed to exist. Carbonite was the beginning of the end IMO. It was Carbonite that allowed the vast majority of the hate that flying gets to exist. It was this kind of addon that was the first major destroyer of the wow community.
Before this kind of addon you had to really search the world, ask questions, and know the world of Azeroth. No sparkles meant I had to seriously look to find what I needed for quest. In retail I just open my map and go in the direction it says, put my cursor over mobs till it tells me what to kill, I don’t even need to read quest or the story anymore.

DBM existed in Vanilla. I agree, though; I’d be happy if they eliminated add ons entirely. That said, the original reason for permitting add ons was to channel people away from actually modding the client, which was an even bigger problem in the early days.

The ClassicLfg add-on is not a TRUE LFG tool like bfa… Its basically a global chat system almost identical to LFG chat just with a prettier interface… so all you guys being all happy and jumping for joy dont really understand what it is as i can see…

Yep. PUGging is a PITA. So you know what most people did back in the day? They joined guilds. LFG not needed and it destroyed much of the social aspects of the community. imho

DBM did not, BigWigs did however. Also, just as an FYI, some of these sites didn’t specifically pop up until after vanilla. So just because you can find a site where the addon was posted after, doesn’t necessarily mean that is when the addon first existed.

I play modless and enjoy it heavily. Have no issues. I’ve been playing wow long enough I don’t need hand holding.

I have my old 2005 raiding video of my guild killing Rag for the first time. There were raid messages like:
Charactername: *** 5 SECONDS UNTIL AE Knockback ***
Charactername: *** AE Knockback ***
Charactername: *** Ragnaros Down for 90 Seconds Incoming Sons of Flame ***
I wonder if that was Bigwigs back then as this was my first experience with raid alerts.

Go play a healer or a mage and then you’ll actually have room to talk.
The only proof I can find of that just says the author decided to make the mod after his first MC raid. No dates were given, but it also said it BigWigs originally was a boss timer warning mod, which is basically it’s nothing like it is today. I can’t find any data that says when it was made or even when it was used. People were still doing there first MC run when Naxx was on farm for others, so there is not much proof that people were using it in MC, BWL, or AQ. I Never did Naxx but I did do the others and no one in my guild used bigwigs.
I’ve played them many times. Mained healer through vanilla and tbc. and then mage through wotlk-cata. If you think playing a mage is difficult then you definitely need hand holding mods.
I played a rogue from vanilla to BFA, not hard either. If you think addons are handholding you clearly need some serious mental help.
Unfortunately, it too late for you though so no point in you reaching out for assistance. Better luck next life.

So the LFGTool addon does work though. They didn’t break it.
It is in the game right now and people are using it to get together and go on adventures w/o having to scan thru the trade LFG spam.
How horrible.
You just open the LFGTool window… Select what dungeon you want to do and bam… It shows you other people who want to do that dungeon.
Terrible.
Then you can whisper them and well… You know the rest.
We have to stop this. WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING.

I’m absolutely tickled pink by all the people who were seething mad at the very concept of this mod before Classic even launched.
Now, after a couple weeks of seeing spam fly by in /LookingForGroup, /Trade, /World, /General, and /LFG, not to mention having to spam messages in all of those channels to get some attention when looking for more, people are suddenly realizing ClassicLFG was never the boogey man they made it out to be.
The damned thing just puts all relevant LFG posts, from every single chat channel in one neat consolidated window for you to peruse at your own leisure. You still have to actively reach out to and message people.
Unless your idea of “community” is spamming “LF2M NEED TANK AND HEALER BRD” over and over in 5 different chats, then this add-on harms nobody.
