Basically… where I work is holding a Classic launch party event. Technically every month we hold a “Games Night” where they provide Pizza / Snacks / Drinks, etc… Anyways, in our training room, we’re thinking about providing systems so that people who wanted to stay late that night could and play with other co-workers. We also wanted to give anyone who either haddn’t played in a long time, or not at all an opportunity to just walk in and join in on the madness that will be launch day!
For those folks that do not have a subscription, is it possible for me to create a few throw away email addresses, sign up and be able to play classic wow? If so, what are the limitations? Lvl 20 cap? 15 day Trial? Not possible? Thoughts?
As of right now, classic wow does not have any trial functionality. But there is no box cost either…so it only costs a flat 15 dollars to play for one month. Even if you only play it for one night it’s still cheaper than a night out at the bar.
World of Warcraft Classic characters are not accessible on Starter Edition accounts
Thx for the info. Any thoughts on how we might be able to get around this? legally? Like do those 15 day trial cards we get with the time cards / game box’s, are they usable in this case?
You need a subscription to play classic. It probably won’t matter though. If your launch party is happening on launch day you’ll probably be spending most of it in loggin que.
it’s not a cost thing… it’s a “how is the best way to allow people who just want to swing by and sit down and relive the experience or see what this thing is all about”… thing. I mean, I could go buy 5 game cards or get 5 one month subs, and create random accounts I suppose… just seems to be a waste for a few hours. Oh well.
If they want to ‘relive’ the experience then they can do what others are doing and just pay for it. If they have never played the game, launch day is really a bad time to have them experience it, given no one might even get into the game anyway that night.
It sounds like fun. I’m sorry there isn’t better news on the trial for classic, but I wanted to mention something more important. Accounts cannot be shared. If you were going to do this for say retail, I think there would be a pretty big issue with creating throwaway emails for people. The account can only be created and played on by the person who created it, and it has to be in their name as far as I know. So essentially, your coworkers would each need to make their own trial account in their name. I know its just temporary fun, but if you are ever looking to do any WoW parties I would be careful with this kind of thing.
I am not an expert, but it is an opinion to consider.
Your idea of a Classic Launch Party sounds a great advertising/publicity idea, so I wonder if you could get Blizzard interested in creating a Play-for-a-Night party pack which would enable this.
Considering the cost of advertising, this would work out very cheap publicity for Blizzard even if they created the packs and distributed them free to eligible businesses who applied for them.
The pack would be a bunch a trial accounts and a cheap souvenir each to remind participants of Warcraft, and some sort of reward to encourage people to organise these parties.
