Classic wow struggling to run

Wow classic is struggling to run on my high end pc.
initially after launch the download took what seemed to be a long time, but ran smoothly once it finished. However, recently when I press play the launcher says “game running” but it takes 10 minutes to bring up the game window. After that when i try to load into my server it takes another five minutes to bring up the character selection. Finally when I click the character i wish to play i get stuck on the game loading screen for an indefinite amount of time. I have not been able to load into the game this week.
I have tried reinstall. uninstall addon and so forth. I am at a loss.
P.s the customer support options available to us are terrible. so forum is my last resort.

What’s your specs?

Sounds like a hard disk issue… do you have room on your HDD? SSD shouldn’t slow down when full.

Sounds more like a CPU maxxing out on unloading the data, not a issue reading from the hdd.

Open task manager, switch it to performance tab, start up wow classic and see what happened. I assume it’s your CPU maxxing out, but could also be a ram issue. I doubt it’s a hdd issue if it’s happened while simply opening the process, before even needing to really load anything from the hdd.

something is wrong on your end. I ran classic wow on a AMD E 350 Processor, 3 GB Ram ddr3 & Radeon 6310HD integrated graphics card, albiet with 12-25FPS. Quested and everything fine, “1” setting.

IMO it sounds like a failing hard drive. Are you having issues running other games? Theres a few things you could do.

  1. Task Manager: Switch tabs so you’re viewing the performance. Fire up Classic. If your CPU isn’t maxed out at 100% then its probably a HDD issue. Try another hard drive.

  2. If it is maxed out, it could be a poor performing CPU. Please list specs so we can better help you.

  3. If it’s a semi recent CPU, it could be the thermal paste is no longer doing its job and the CPU is throttling because it’s overheating. Download HWINFO and run sensors. Fire up classic and watch for temp spikes (80c+ on the CPU). If it spikes, remove the cooler and reapply thermal paste. Also check that the cooler is working properly.

In the future, it’s best to include your PC specs. That could rule out a few things just having that info. WoW Classic is a very easy to run game so any PC made in the last decade should run it fine. If i were a betting man, I’d bet the HDD is failing. Luckily spinning disk space is cheap.

I bet you didn’t install windows correctly. need to be sure to install 64 or possibly the game version.

Should check.

try scan and repair through the battlenet launcher.

I’m all for asking for help anywhere you can find it, but have you actually tried the tech support forum? They’re usually pretty on top of helping people get their issues figured out over there.

8 gig ram. intel® core ™ i5-6600k cpus@ 3.5ghz
nvidia 1060 graphics card.
I run destiny 2 at 80fps most of the time. I know that my computer is more than capable.
I did try what you suggested and looked at performance
cpu performance was normal… the DISK performance did shoot up to 100% though
my HDD is 2TB and 1.81G are still available

The launcher may be on your end loading into the game could be addons your using

Try another HDD if you have one laying around. Is it old? It could be failing. It’s worth a shot. Plus it’s a good excuse to nab a 500g SSD.

Could be your HDD, but I would think you would notice something in your other games. Is it just happening in WOW or have other games been lagging too?

Just checked. my other games downloaded to my HDD pulled up and ran fine

Try ; if you have win10.
There is a update for windows that requires you to turn off computer not just restart it.

Also right click the wow.exe in the DIR you have installed the game and run as Admin…

is it possible that the game has not fully downloaded to your computer? I have long pauses if the game is loading with every transition in the game. my wow folder has 3.96GB in it without retail.

Also if you are running retail try to see if the loading screens are the same. if so, I think your HDD may just be slow. You will notice a huge increase to loading screens with a SSD

Hdd is running all other downloads fine
and was running classic well last week

Had a similar problem recently, turned out to be a failing hard drive. Used a program called “Macrium Reflect” to transfer all data from my failing hard drive to a new solid state drive, the contrast between the two was most impressive. Went from minutes long load screens to a few seconds in the load screen and I think that was with the Load Screen Boss blowing all his cool-downs.

This is IMPORTANT! If you believe that you have a failing hard drive it is imperative that you get a program like “Macrium Reflect” and create a mirror of your hard drive so that you don’t have to reinstall every program on your machine. This will literally save you three days of installing programs and customizing settings to get your machine to run exactly like you want it to.

i have an ssd to download classic to, but when i attempt to do so it says the folder path has a problem with it
