on the Horde, too. That’s the big thing missing from making my immersion perfect in Classic. I wish I could play a Goblin. It just makes too much sense.
Ok.

This makes me wonder what early WoW would have been like if we’d had goblins as a core Horde race instead of Forsaken (because I can’t see leaving out orcs, trolls, or tauren).
Would Booty Bay have been a Horde capital? Or maybe the goblin capital would have been Gadgetzan, and then there would be no Horde presence in EK at all?
What would have been in place of the Forsaken lands in Lordaeron? More questing areas like Eastern/Western Plaguelands?
I think if Goblins were a core Horde race, it would probably follow as:
-Faction would be Steamwheedle Cartel
-Capital would be Gadgetzan
As for the lack of playable Forsaken, I think Tirisfal Glades would be a questing zone, yes. I could see Undercity actually being a raid, with Sylvanas and Varimathras being bosses. I’m not so sure it would’ve fit well narratively though, with the Naxxramas patch. Perhaps too much Undead themed content.
Conversely, though, if this were the caze, it would’ve made a banger TBC patch. Returning to Azeroth to stop Sylvanas and Varimathras making Lordaeron the new demonic front for the Burning Legion or something along those lines, alternate history style.
Why? Even as of Warcraft 3 the goblins were free agents working for both factions. Heck, SI:7 second in command was a goblin.
I’m not sure the undead would have settled in Undercity if Blizzard hadn’t been planning on making them playable in WoW. Or the undead might not even have broken free of the Lich King’s control—we might just have had Scourge. We know that the free-willed undead were added to WC3 specifically so they could become playable in WoW.
Same reason the Night Elves joined the Alliance—to make them playable in the new two-faction game.
they were originally going to but they decided against it since if you ever took a deep look into vanilla it’s all recycled assets. according to an interview they said they couldnt justify making goblin tech assets and the like since they had nowhere to fit them in the world…despite the same being true for gnomes
Gnomes weren’t planned to be playable either until later in development.
Although the alpha gnome model can still be encountered.
That thing is terrifying. Looks like it has a duckbill.
It kinda resembled Troggs. Maybe even been a concept Troggs are Gnome mutants. Maybe.
Face is hideous but the armor is really cool, a shame Blizzard took so long to make armor that wasn’t just texture-on-skin.
No. The models would have looked awful and they lacked their own starting zone. You can tell TurtleWOW has the same problem and parked them all in Durotar which is boring.
I kinda like the old style goblins better, they were kinda cute and cartoony instead of being hideous.
