I hope soon. And I hope they have a dedicated hardcore server. I will play both regular vanilla and hardcore. But hardcore can disrupt regular servers if a huge population is there. Solo HC requires no partying outside of dungeons so tagging mobs takes some turn taking. And if people aren’t willing to take turns, then it’s a cluster for everybody.
Really really hope they add a dedicated hardcore server. I would be all up in that. And it wouldn’t disrupt regular servers.
I imagine a hardcore server would not be up to the level of requirements that solo HC people have. It is still an mmo. Turning off trading, the Auction house, and group play wont happen. The farthest they would go is possibly being unable to resurrect when you die.
The addon can block a users interface from interracting with things not allowed. I’m sure the developers could enable someone to turn on/off certain features, doesn’t sound that hard.
I said it wont happen not that it couldn’t happen.
Blizzard is amazingly consistent at dropping the ball. I know OSRS did something with a hardcore feature where users could pick levels to it. If it’s something layup easy they really should implement it.
You are assuming it is easy. But how would they enable you to group for dungeons if you can’t group for quests? How do you allow them to play a duo but prevent all others from grouping with anyone else. Are we removing all duos and all dungeons pre level 60? A pure solo player game until lvl 60 when the handcuffs come off? Disabling the mail box feature when some quests send you items in the mail? I think the HC community still wants to enjoy wiping in gnomeregan and I think players still want to duo HC with their friend since misery loves company. It is far easier to just enforce death=delete than cover every imaginable restriction that HC players want to put on themselves.
I’m not saying they would have all the options.
But to have someone not be able to group would be easy. Lets not get carried away.
I literally said.
Honestly, they wouldn’t even really need to do anything different for a hardcore server. It would be helpful for them to add some options for resurrection and stuff like that. But really so long as there is an official server that hardcore players can go to and not have to worry about getting abused because they don’t want to party with somebody, and must tag mobs themselves. It’s also makes it easier on the hardcore player, because they know those around them are probably waiting in line to tag, and you can figure things out together.
Also, an MMO does not mean you must party together, or even do anything directly together. It just means that there’s a bunch of people playing in a persistent world. It could just be for window dressing, and fulfill the necessities of what an MMO is.
And that is fine for the people that want it and I agree that it would be nice to have a server where being a solo character is entirely acceptable and assumed. I am just stating it wont be exactly ideal to the HC community, but I also don’t think it should. Death = Delete is hardcore enough. If players want to restrict themselves further I dont see how someone else not restricting themselves gets in their way. But death = delete is enough that if more or less restrictive players group for content, then everyone is equally committed to the level of risk. It wouldn’t bother me that the other players in dungeon bought leather from the AH or is weaker because they dont buy from the AH since we all go down together.

There is a reason many of us think Death=Delete isn’t quite enough. If trading is allowed, a HC player could buy gold and then pay to be carried all the way to max level. Don’t know why anyone would do this - it doesn’t sound fun to me at all. But there is a problem with today’s gamer where people will pay-to-win at anything to save themselves time and effort. The current HC rules, as expressed in the addon most of us are using, removes all pay-to-win activity. True it also closes us off to most social activity, it is well worth the price to us to avoid all the crap.
this. it was good enough for Diablo 2, it’s good enough for WoW
Yeah I think that should just be the standard for a hardcore server. And an add-on can be used to do further challenges. I think such a server should come with the understanding that you will be playing with people who will not party with you and will try to tag mobs solo. And if this is not acceptable, go to another server.
Is it HC if any gold buying was done?
No. There is no trading or use of the mailbox.
