Classic WoW FPS stuck at 30fps at Windowed Fullscreen mode

Hello there, ever since classic released I’ve been playing classic at Windowed Fullscreen mode with no problems in my fps. My Gpu is a Radeon Rx580. I think it started a few months ago when the frame rate for classic doesn’t go any higher than 30fps. It’s supposed to go between 60-100 frames but for some reason, on Windowed Fullscreen, it’ts locked at 30fps. When I alt-tab and hover my mouse over the Classic WoW application the frame rate shoots up to 100fps. When i switch to windowed mode everything’s fine but I prefer Windowed Fullscreen. I’ve tried renaming my Cache, WTF, and Interface folder but that doesn’t help. I remove all my add-ons and it doesn’t work. I tried doing the Scan/Repair option in the Battle.net window and that doesn’t work either. I believe I’ve read on Reddit that the reason my Classic WoW application gets locked at 30fps is because classic wow can conflict with other apps and use up the same resources. I’ve basically tried everything in the WoW Performance issue (FPS) article and nothing has worked so far. So I’m reaching out to you guys if you’ve dealt with problems like this.

Hey Voodothunder! Thank you for reaching out with those details. The most common cause of FPS issues such as this is a problem with the in-game settings or a conflicting third-party program. In rarer cases it could be caused by a problem with your video driver or Windows settings. To narrow this down, try these steps:

  1. Reset your in-game options to resolve many crashing and performance problems.
  2. Reset your video driver settings to correct settings which may conflict.
  3. Reset your user interface to make sure your files and addons are not corrupted.
Note: If you are using Twitch/Curse Client or any other addon managers, you will need to uninstall those temporarily for this process to work. It’s also important to note that this process will return your game client to default settings. If you wish to keep any addons you play with, I recommend moving the ‘Interface’ folder to your desktop temporarily. Once you have completed the UI reset, you can then go in and move your addons over to the new ‘Interface’ folder one at a time to see if it was causing the issue.

If the FPS issues continue, try closing any potentially conflicting programs/applications by disabling startup items with the steps below. Before trying the steps below, please close unnecessary programs and restart your computer:

  1. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open the Task Manager.
  2. Click More Details in the bottom-left.
  3. Select the Startup tab.
  4. Right-click on each item listed and select Disable. Make sure all are “Disabled”.
  5. Restart the computer.

If the issue is resolved after restarting your system, you can enable each startup application one at a time to determine which one is causing the problem. You will need to restart between each application you enable.

Note: To re-enable startup applications, follow steps 1-4 and select Enable.

I hope this helps! Let us know how it goes.

there is a setting (Esc - System - Advanced ) there’s a box that is ticked says Max Foreground FPS that caps the FPS. try sliding it to 60 or more (untick it for max FPS) then test if the FPS increases.

Update:
Everything is back to normal again, although I can’t remember specifically what I did to fix it. So I’ve got down to one of these things.

  1. Resetting my classic wow interface.
  2. Deleting most of my addons and reinstalling them from InterfaceOld to Interface folder.
  3. Updating my graphics card drivers.

In the past I have renamed my Cache, Interface, and WTF folders before but to no avail. So it’s most likely #'s 2 or 3 on the list. In case this happens again I’ll try to do what’s recommended and create another update in the future. Until then, thanks for the support guys !
