Classic WoW casual friendly for a busy mama?

Hello, I’m a busy mama of a 10 month old baby and 3 year old toddler and I work part time. I play BFA 1-2 hours a day. I’m wondering if Classic WoW will be realistic for me or if should I not bother playing.

  • If I play a couple hours a night how long will it take me to get to 60?

  • I enjoy 5 man dungeons. How long do dungeons take?

  • How long is the process of getting attunement , keys, and bis pre raid gear?

  • I would like to raid but I’m not sure how realistic that is. How long do raids take?

-Classic PvP rankings - if I play 1-2 hours a night is it possible to get rank 10 for the blue quality gear?

  • What Class do you recommend?

  • PvP or PvE server?

Thanks so much for your time folks

everything is much more casual friendly in some regards than live which is “endgame or nothing”.

That said, if i’m being honest pvp rankings depend entirely on how competitive competition is on the server over time.

5 man dungeons do take longer than live, but are more rewarding IMHO. if you play a few hours a night, it should take you about 50-90 days to hit 60 (that’s ok though, again the journey is the reward in classic like an old rpg), keys are np, but attunements can be a pain but not awful. Comparable to grinding the flying achievement in live maybe.

Raiding is realistic to a certain extent with a good group, but you have to also be realistic with yourself that you can raid but there will likely be a point where you’ll start to hit the wall and need to either push harder, or just relax and have fun.

Honestly, later on into classic if you want to raid MC and BWL will become casual, and if you pvp you should be able to get some blue pvp gear pieces.

A long time. Don’t worry about that though. Unlike in BFA, leveling in Classic is part of the experience; it’s not just a waste of time before endgame.

Most dungeons take about 1-2 hours. A particularly long dungeon or slow run might take more, a short dungeon or fast run might take less.

Again, quite long, if you mean ‘time required to get all of them done’. But also again, don’t worry about it, it’s actual content and not just a prerequisite.

Most common raid groups run for 3-4 hours a night. Later in Classic, faster raids will become more common.

I hate to give a hard no; but no. It is not possible to reach rank 10 at 1-2 hours a night as a primarily solo player.

Hunter. Well, I mean, I always recommend shaman, but for your playstyle I think what would work best is a class that can always solo important objectives, and the best solo class is hunter.

Sounds like you would do better on PVE; on a PVP server, you might randomly just get delayed for unpredictable amounts of time,w hich isn’t a big deal when you have a lot of playtime but is kind of a huge deal when you only have two hours and you need to get to the dungeon without wasting time.

A couple hours a night?

Maybe 2-3 months, depending on your class. Hunters will level faster (less dying = less running)

Dungeons will take a very long time to form groups. Plus you’d need to travel there. Depending on the dungeon, it will takes 45min - 4 hours. Add 15-45min for travel and group forming.

Attunements, keys, and pre-raid BiS will take more time than you’re comfortable with. Often, you’ll need a good 2hrs to just sit down and play without any interruptions. Honestly, you won’t hit pre-raid BiS after 6 months of playing (given 3 months to reach 60).

Raids are dependent on the group. If it’s on farm, maybe 90min. Otherwise, 4 hours.

PVP Rankings… eh, honestly hard to tell. I wouldn’t think so. You’ll get Rank 7 easily. After that, it’ll be more about how good your games go.

  • “If your class can heal, you’re gonna heal.”
  • Classes are heavily-inspired by traditional RPG elements. Depends on your playstyle.
  • PVE server for you, PVP would quite literally cause you to waste your very limited free time.

To summarize: BFA will be more friendly if you want endgame content.

Classic will give you are far better experience if you’re into immersion and RPG elements. Tedious tasks do not feel like chores – that’s one of the best things about Classic.

So whats for dinner tonight puff mama? chili?

Dungeon groups could take an hour or two just to form during vanilla. then another hour or 2 to run. Classic will likely be longer group forming time due to an even smaller percentage of players playing heal bots.

Long enough that you’ll have a game to enjoy and look forward to progression for months if not all year.

Dungeons can take an hour or more depending on how much you want to clear/complete. You would expect to take more time than BFA 5 mans for sure. it would take up that 1-2 hour period you have to play.

Attunements can take a while, spanning days and potentially a sequence could go past your stated time allotment, there may be instances where you would want to dedicate 3 hours once a month instead of 1-2 daily to complete those tasks. Raids like MC took weeks of wiping to learn and complete the dungeon with 39 other people. This may not be accessible to you as a casual, but would become accessible once these areas are on farm. So 6 or 8 hours wiping or clearing originally, and than some day it will be 2 hours to clear MC likely.

Hunter is a good solo class imo, if you won’t have others or plan to play with anyone at first.

PVE server, PVP will hinder you to the extent where you might not fit your objective in your 1-2 hour playtime. In pve you can ‘flag-up’ for pvp and fight others who opt-in, without costing you a wasted session when you don’t want to fight.

It takes the average person 8-9 days /played to get to 60. You’re looking at 4 months at 1-2 hrs/day.

Everything takes forever. You have to find a group and then run to the dungeon. That’s easily 20 minutes down the drain when you’re taking boats and long flight paths. You won’t be burning 3 dungeons an hour like LFG.

Raiding is similar to live except there is no dungeon/group finder. You’ll have to get 40 people together to do a raid. Get everyone there. Everyone set up and ready. Then deal with the bosses themselves/wipes/etc. Again, it takes forever.

Rank 10 isn’t possible at 1-2 hours a night.

PVE server would be recommended because of ganking/etc. You’ll want to maximize your “productive” time. You don’t want to worry about rogues behind your back. You’ll easily get corpse camped for 15-20 minutes multiple times on your way to 60.

Summary: The game is much slower and requires a lot more time. You’ll eventually get there but it is going to take a long time.

If my group has been in a dungeon for 1 hour and things arent wrapping up then i will suddenly remember “i left my cat in the oven” and leave. 5 mans should be 40 minutes to an hour. The exception being a full brd run, but not everyone wants to do those in the first place, they usually just do individual routes.
Raids can take up to 4 hours though.

I would recommend OP play it just for the leveling experience and not worry too much about end game stuff. Tier 0.5 is doable without raiding and is pretty good for pvp though.

I think it might be. I don’t remember specifics but pvp was pretty casual until 10, it was the marshal grind where you were playing 16 hours a day for weeks getting 1st, 2nd or third most points or w/e it was on your server for each week.

Field marshal was all that time, if you wanted Grand Marshal it was a couple more weeks 2-3 potentially depending on your placements for field marshal and how much further you want over. I think rank 11 was the pvp mount if memory serves, 13 was the weapons at field marshal and 14 was grand marshal, something like that.

I realise I said I don’t remember specifics and than got oddly specific, memory is mostly there/full but some pieces can be slightly off. I think where I was in pvp it took 3 full on weeks OFF from raiding, PVP only leading 10 and 15 man premades in PVP to get field marshal, and GM was maybe 2 more weeks away from raiding at wherever I ended at the FM grind for 1h axes.

Or…join a casual social guild that aren’t in a rush to get to the end and will eventually do some raids.

In vanilla my guild only did ZG/AQ20. We didn’t have enough for 40.
Heck…we didn’t have enough that wanted to do 20 and so teamed up with another social guild. We only raided once a week for 2 hours.

We eventually completed those 2 raids.

I met quite a few people in game that had responsibilities outside of work. Like any hobby, you find time for it when you can. I recommend finding a guild whose leadership understands your responsibilities and is willing to work with you. Molten Core is relatively easy once the later phases bring in certain gear, and that probably will make this raid puggable in later phases.

1-2 hours a day can be very productive or not depending on what your doing and when. For example, if you plan your play sessions out with friends you can get the relevant dungeon quests one time, and then run the dungeons another. Since it’s planned you get more out of your time.

Dungeons require cc to do at level. Unless a high level takes you through a dungeon, it will go slow since the mob packs have to go down (one by one) in a kill order determined by the leader. Patience is needed.

Attunements were rewarded for certain quest chains. These chains led into and out of dungeons, and took a long time to complete. If you like quests and dungeons, then you will enjoy the attunement process. Since your time is limited, I suggest you plan it out with some friends.

For pvp ranking, unless you plan to focus on pvp don’t worry about it. The ranks will come, but as others mentioned you won’t make it past a certain point without time put into it. By what you posted, it seems you won’t have time for getting past 5-7 (depending on server activity).

As far as class goes, the pet classes (Hunter and Warlock) offer a lot of self sufficiency during leveling and pvp. Hunter and Warlock bring dps and utility to raids and are always welcome. Any class with healing spells is always welcome if the player is willing to put those healing spells to use. That said, if Classic is tuned like Vanilla, the first raid is rather forgiving compared to later tiers.

Pve or Pvp server? That depends on if you like to pvp all the time. Due to it being likely you will be interrupted during play, I recommend pve servers.

Good luck.

I’m in a similar boat. I don’t have much time to play from night to night with some nights getting no play time.

Regardless, I will enjoy the leveling journey (the best part for me personally) and try to do dungeons when I can.

I will PVP when I can and if the queue times are not outrageous.

You will give up before level 20.

I think WoW, either retail or Classic, is great for casual players because they’re if there is no stress with you and if you just want to slow go it, you will never run out of content. But you may not find the point of going back to some of the things you already did for the added grind and niche difficulty of classic. Maybe you will prefer retail that has now added in a lot of automated features to help with people that don’t have 8 hours a day to wow. Before the game was touting this number, as we have at least 8 hours a day of content available. It sort of chased that first wave of players as they grew up and had other things pull them away and could only afford so much time.

This is one of the worst bets of all time. To bank on the fact that someone will quit early one of the most successful, addictive games in the history of planet earth.

You’ll just quit EQ, not lock your kids in a closet to binge play 3 days.

These types of games/experiences the problems trying to quit or limit play, not quitting early. History backs this argument

I have a 1 and 2 year old. I will be jamming Classic. I’m happy to take it slow though and enjoy the journey. This game is not going anywhere anytime soon. There will be plenty of time to experience every aspect of the game.

This. Social guilds are the way to go here. There will be people leveling at your pace and you will have loads of people to do dungeons etc with. The content won’t be completed as fast as other guilds, but you will get there. So it’s really dependent on your expectations of end game.

Just give it a shot, you’ll know pretty fast what the progression pace is like and whether it works for you, or if you even enjoy it :stuck_out_tongue:
