Are there currently any plans to have a classic wow armory? When was the origonal armory implimented? The first time I recall using it was early TBC. I look people up all the time so it would suck if there isn’t one around. Has there been any news on this yet that I missed?
No, there is no armory because it’s not authentic to the game at all at any point in Classic history.
Armory is a TBC feature as you mentioned, so the players will need to wait for Classic TBC before they can have an armory.
Blizzard has not said anything thus far about Armory, but they have been fairly hard nosed on the “authentic” bandwagon and as such I would not expect any non-Classic features.
It’s likely that other than the battle-net services like armory, the api will be available for developers as well. Was one of the main reasons to use the modern infrastructure for classic.
I know the devs have had a kind of soft stance on things like this, with the logic that if it’s something that players are likely to accomplish via add-on, they may as well leave the functionality in-game. I recall that in Vanilla we had something very similar to the Armory where we could reference a player’s gear. It was used by my guild to gauge a player’s progress (the gear they had), competence (was it the right gear for the spec?), and dedication (was it all enchanted and raid-ready?). So if that add-on is still fairly prevalent, the devs may opt either to link the Armory to Classic or implement it later.
Armory is a TERRIBLE idea, it’s so bad that it’s half way game breaking dude. I am dead serious, it’s horrible game design.
Handy as hell, and I personally love it but deep down I know how destructive it is.
I can only hope that Blizzard understands this and perhaps the plans they have are distant future plans because they will need to get the infrastructure correct so that they can have that feature in TBC.
TBC like Classic is not a matter of IF, but a matter of WHEN.
Old school gaming is a force of nature; on this I think we can both agree.
That is what they’re missing right now with most games… Almost every game out there right now has all the micro transactions and customization that people drool over but unfortunately most of these games are missing the entire point of gaming…
I mean look at the graphics in Quake 3 vs what’s out now…
Quake 3 is 10X better a FPS than anything you can get now, excluding maybe Quake Champions, but that’s more or less just Quake 3 arena with slightly improved graphics…
Point is, graphics, lighting, shadows, texture detail, frame rate, resolution… All of this is meaningless, the only thing that matters is game play, because that’s what we remember.
In my mind I remember the graphics from Classic WoW as WAY better than they really are because the game was so freaking good that I was immersed in the game play.
I do not however remember much of my experience playing Legion because the game while it did have fancy graphics… was kinda dull.
I cannot for the life of me remember a single item I had on my Hunter in Legion or even now in BFA (he’s been un-played for months now)
But I can remember items, quests, events, etc, etc, etc from Vanilla.
God, I hope not. This is the type of crap sped up the march of a dumbed down, streamlined destroyed wow. I hope Blizzard fights this type of nonsense tooth and nail and stops the community from demanding the knife that kills itself to be ever sharpened.
Because whats in game should stay in game. If you want to see a character’s gear right click inspect. I don’t think there should be any way to see spec ever. All these out off game automation cookie cutter who is the best follower mindset enforcer functions add to the creep toward the precipice of Classic taking the same route of retail.
