Classic WOW Aftermath

Hello all,

Do you think classic WOW will create some changes to existing MMO market?

Will it be just many people playing with paid streamers streaming classic for few days then the population diluting within few weeks?

Will there be enough people even to do 40 man raids later on or the opening of Ahn’Qiraj gate event?

Will there be server merges as the hype dies down?

What do you all think of the state of classic wow after 4-5 months from release?

Streamers, regardless if they play for years or just days, will never make or break Classic so I wouldn’t worry about them to much. Their presence won’t impact the whole game so much as just the server they happen to be on

Yes, of course! I’d guarantee there will be an influx of people when the war effort starts just so they can be apart of the event.

Never.

Booked and busy.

I believe classic will make a big splash, and then die down. Several hundred thousand people who’ve been desperately fiending for this will no life it for a few weeks before we remember we have lives.

Then it will settle down. Streamers won’t play it long term, and as they drift away the game will lose popularity.

The real trick will be picking the server you join carefully. Populations will drop over time, but if your server has many active guilds and a vibrant community you’ll be the one people are transfering to, not away from.

I don’t expect Blizzard will do anything at all to support classic. This is a way for them to keep subs up, a very smart one, but nothing more.

There will be people for each phase of content, I think. People will reach 60, hit the end of the content, and then stop playing. But the second a new wow classic event goes live they’ll be back.

Blizzard will likely time those so they arrive during retail content droughts, and they’ll train the players to move back and forth between the games.

Either way, I plan to have a blast at launch and see the stuff I missed back in vanilla =)

Layering is suppose to help when population dies down and then layers are merged. So 3-4 months down the road i assume layers are gone and phase 2 will be announced. I have now taken it upon me to construct a raid progression guild with meme specs, so i assume thats around the time we clear MC n Ony.

What is this tin foil hat thing where people think streamers are paid to play Classic?

You notice that anytime a streamer does a paid promotion they have AD on there title? Twitch is very strict about that and no smart streamer would risk there job and not put that in the title if they are being paid.

I expect around 3 million people at launch…Then it will be well under 1 million 6 months into it. Getting to 60 is brutal if you are not the leveling type, and end game raid content doesn’t really start until maybe 5-6 months after launch for majority of the classic players. which many tourists and retail players will surely not expect or enjoy.

I don’t give a crap what streamers are doing, I’m going to play regardless. These “classic will die” threads need to stop, private servers have been going for 15 years and they haven’t died yet…

As long as Blizzard does it right and doesn’t drive people away again with too many changes and the cash shop this will be the best place to play Classic WoW.

private servers are free

Agreed. I believe the drop off won’t be crazy like they think. Tbh, I don’t know why people think the masses won’t be addicted like they were in 04-06.

Nope.

It’ll be very active for the first 6 months because the leveling is good, but the honeymoon phase will wear off very quickly when people see why the endgame isn’t what made Vanilla great.

Trees wake up from long sleep to play dat classic. Trees den discover da new world fun too. Easier.

Trees like de idea of classic world mon but Trees also has flowa and sapling to cultivate outside da world. New world is betta for Trees.

Well I believe Classic will be going for a good long while, well beyond 6 months. Personally I plan to play on a server away from streamers, however that might be limited if we only get 1 RP-PVP server and streamers decide to roll on that one >.<

I am sure we will have more than enough to open AQ when that time rolls around, I just hope they don’t rush content, thus giving players ample time to explore and even build some alts first.

I think the forces that brought us to classic have already changed the MMO market. There are few up and coming MMOs that are trying to appeal to “everyone” like WoW, FFXIV, SWTOR ect did. Instead, you’re seeing a lot of niche games and more, for lack of better terminology, old school MMOs coming out.

I expect that if classic is successful, you will see an increase in that.
