Wow wasnt even 40% complete on release and all these classic andys crying for no changes need to snap back to reality. If you really want #nochanges, there is already a server for that. Stop trying to ruin yet another launch with your idiotic opinons. THIS FRESH NEEDS CHANGES, if it recieves none like 2019 it will die, or at least split the already small playerbase that is classic. If you complain about qol changes or just better functioning classic with updated features, your opinion is wrong, and you should feel bad about it. Stop trying to ruin this release of classic.
While there was a big chunk of missing content; the classes them selves and the game itself is very complete and actually very well balanced for its intended use.
The intended use of “Vanilla” was World leveling and Questing, Small scale dungeons like Black Rock Depths, and various leveling dungeons and such as well as World PVP / Battlegrounds.
The literal last thing planned for “Vanilla” during its build process even if its one of the things that got shoved in (incomplete) was Molten Core / Ony; these were shoe horned in because Blizzard in the last 2 years of development started to employ some game killing idiots to the team; these were former guild masters players from EQ who wanted nothing but Raid PVE.
This is why the shift in focus to Raid PVE was programmed into your brain, and why terrible players constantly cry for “muh game balance” only looking at the 3 primary roles for Raid PVE and then whimper and groan when they’re not top of the leader board for their given use.
This idiotic design philosophy change metastasized in TBC with the 2.0 update that basically negated the rest of the game, and worse the whole expansion of the Shield wall clones and mobility / CC increase / utility increase arms race began.
Vanilla was a complete mechanics kit, the only thing its missing is content; that is all.
Also don’t forget they WERE going to actually do a balance pass at the end but said screw it TBC is coming so we’re going to wait…
Not wrong at all. They basically solicited top EQ raiders and asked them “What do you want in a game” rather than ask the average EQ player. Which is funny because we can see the same thing in retail: They solicit ideas from streamers (most of whom raid mythic) and mythic raiders for what needs to be done instead of making a game that appeals to the average person. Basically making the same mistakes as the vanilla devs did by asking the wrong people and trying to make a game to entice them.
yeah you know what we want finished? the ZONES and the DUNGEONS and the RAIDS. we don’t want a bunch of new crap added like dual spec
the first time people discussed classic+, it was ALL about getting the actual content of azeroth created. now it’s just a bunch of retail babies wanting all their pet features jammed into classic.
What if I liked the game it was?
You’re 5 if you disagree with me.
Overall state of balance is very good for its original use; the only thing that could be really improved are some minor changes to Ele / enhance / feral and ret / prot. These changes would be lightly improving mechanical functions; things like trading off burst in exchange for superior mana efficiency (ele sham), more raid utility similar to pala (enhance), elimination of the stupid Feral AP stat but fix scaling of the feral druid damage based on base core stats rather than stick on crap like Feral attack power… The same should have been done with the “attack power” / “spell damage&healing” / “Spell Healing”, reason being these stats should really never have existed as paste on either. They’re bad and should never have been.
However with all that said, the game is actually really good in its present form.
Legit I think just using the 2.0 talent tree/abilities fixes like every issue with Classic
Exactly. I still have love for retail, but it’s become an entirely different game, which is why Classic was so refreshing.
People want to see Classic evolve in a different way. No changes to the “game” itself, but simply adding additional content. I’m not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to Classic’s changes, but where I initially thought Season of Discovery sounded very cool, it kind of feels like a bit of mess, but definitely does not feel like “Classic” to me.
Adding dual-spec, or any such changes or features, I think directly undermines the entire point of “classic”. Again, I can certainly appreciate those features on retail, but they’re a large part of why the game feels so different today.
Its both good and bad, years ago I build a /cough test server where we played BG’s under the 2.0 patch (capped at 60) on Vanilla content / gear.
Its fun, but after playing it for a while its got some pro’s but also quite a few bad things.
The biggest problem is that the talents in 2.0+ are so strong that you’re basically forced to take them if you want to be competitive.
Contrast this to “vanilla” such as 1.12 where you have a much broader selection of choices on near any class. For example I play Paladin a lot, and its an amazing class because you can build in no kidding a dozen different ways that are all very much different. You an build Reck Ret, Reck Holy, Holy Prot, Deep ret, Ret Holy, Holy Shockadin, and so on… There are TONS of options, but soon as you go to 2.0 you’re limited to just a few builds.
This is also very similar on Shaman (love shaman such as good class in Vanilla), problems is with 2.0 its similar to Pala where you go from quite a large variety of options down to just a hand full…
This is basically the result of the “Classes” being divided up into “specs” that is the new TBC thinking that’s persisted into modern day WoW retail where each “class” is really 3 of them.
there was no finished Hyjal zone from 2004-2007, but we still have
elfs
crying for something that is demonstrably NOT classic.
I was kinda excited about the two/three weeks of tbc pre patch a year from now tbh.
Spiritual attunement was a great feature- Could have been a solid libram in classic
That’s too bad isn’t it?
Nobody ever said life is fair, except for the russian guy who worked at the fair “LIFE IS FAIR”
we shall see
if dual spec is as restrictive as i think it will be, you won’t be gloating so much
I will because it’s in the game but thanks!
it won’t be anything like wrath tho ![]()
Battle For Azeroth was the complete game as Vanilla devs envisioned the game in it’s optimal form. The expansions after are essentially WoW Plus. Anything before it was basically Early Access
Id love to see your source.
It wont matter but id still love to see the source thanks.
If you think classic is what classic was meant to be, you’re already too far gone, if there is as perfect as there can be a version of wow the devs really wanted it was TBC. This is almost obvious if you think about it, because most of the tbc stuff was meant to be a part of classic. AGAIN if you really can’t stand #changes making the game more balance and as close to perfect as classic was MEANT to be, there is era, go crazy, enjoy your gdkps and unbalanced unintended gameplay. What SHOULD HAVE BEEN will be what I hope classic + is, and what i feel like this version of classic is going to move toward.
SA was great, but I think the mechanics for mana efficiency while important for Protection in this way could have just been a component of holy shield also?? Each time you block a attack you gain mana based on damage done.
That is how it could have / should have been done.
