Has anyone done a list or video on the differences between classic and private sever? Since we all know most private sever (No ban plz ) use the 1.12.1 client and that isn’t even the on the version they seem to use as a reference. Plus we know not everything will run as if it was patch 1.12 I think besides the phases.
Every private server is intentionally slightly different, and even some have multiple styles, like a recent one that opened up for “fast play”.
It doesn’t matter any more, since Classic is the only one that counts, and all the private servers are either closing, or changing their code to match Classic.
It’s pretty hard to do when beta is over and very few people actually had access while it was available
One is.
That’s going to take some time on their part.
Private servers existed even when the “retail” patch was 1.12.
Anyone who had an extra PC or laptop, about 80GB of space and some basic knowledge of Linux could spin up their own private server, give themselves GM powers and explore anything they wanted.
Most people just didn’t play on them. Because they had the real deal, with actual server populations.
But the original stuff is probably still out there somewhere.
If they aren’t closing before Classic… they will be after…
Only the shady Russian ones that don’t respect copyright law will survive.
Classic ping should be better than ND’s 160ms at my house, that’s a nice change.
ND uses dynamic respawns for launch, vs layering on Classic.
ND world chat is pretty toxic, Classic get RCR .
Classic also doesn’t have a dedicated world channel like ND.
But an easily created one. And we haven’t checked for the /join LFG channel on the latest build.
classic - Legal
Pirate server - Illegal
There is no other difference that matters.
the words ‘private server’ give them an air of legitimacy that they should not have as they are 1000000% illegal (under international copyright laws type of illegal) and should all be burned to the ground.
Good luck with that, between people either remembering incorrectly or from playing on pservers and even pserver creators going off the same plus making good guesses, they have inaccuracies they’re not even aware of and that’s because they don’t have the original source to go by like Blizzard does.
If you’re planning on playing one, it’s really not worth it when we’re just over a month to launch.
Behold mah moral superiotah
nope just stating facts.
Really bugs me how all these streamers were pretty much the only people who got into the beta yet almost none of them made informative videos about the differences in classic vs private vs og vanilla, or even early leveling guides for every zone/class combo.
I know there are a few, but it is VERY few. Content creators suck.
-Hosted in USA. That means you don’t have 150-200+ms
-Won’t suddenly pull the plug like Nost did and countless other servers did. This will be here to stay.
-Will actually have customer service, rather than saying “tough luck” when your account gets hacked.
-Won’t have any hackers due to modern anti cheat and dedicated staff. Private servers are overrun with them because they run a 2006 client, have sloppy server code, and poor numbers of volunteer staff.
Regardless, they’ve provided the only taste of vanilla-esque gameplay for many people for a very long time, so it is still interesting to compare and contrast. From an informational, “what can we expect” kind of standpoint, you understand.
It wasn’t 80gb lol, it was really tiny at first with just the exe and dll’s and text database, overtime that changed that into an sql database and after a while they started adding collision maps so the mobs wouldn’t walk through walls and that only made the server grow to about the same size as the client itself.
I saw a video posted by Hakurai and he did a side by side comparison of private server vs stress test beta. It was really interesting, for the lower levels private servers were actually way overtuned and more difficult.
One of the more popular pservers, wont name it here, is opening TBC server to answer Blizzards Classic…
No-one partitions to data size. My old dual boots were 2/3s Windows, 1/3 Linux, so 80GB would be a pretty accurate partion on a 240 GB HDD.
I’m sticking with 80GB.
