[Classic] Visual Bug Shorelines

Have started experiencing an issue recently where shorelines and the surroundings of bodies of water like lakes will flicker back and forth between black and being perfectly fine. Is most evident when on a flight path.

My PC is running a RTX4080 among other high end specifications. I have all in-game settings to ultra/max, tried lowering some but no changes. I have DirectX 12 enabled. I have also tried DirectX 11 and no change. Have tried updating all my graphics drivers among other software.

Unsure what is causing the problem here but it is incredibly frustrating to look at.

Hoping someone else has had a similar issue or can lead me in the direction of a possible fix.

Try disabling MSAA(multisampling antialiasing) if you’re using it. It’s likely related to that old flicker bug from ages ago.

In the options, it’s under the antialiasing options. Change it to image based or none (cmaa2 works pretty well under image based, personally, it’s what I use). But basically, make sure it’s not in a mode that uses multisampling. It’s an option that doesn’t change with the graphics slider levels. I’m not 100% positive if the menus are the same in classic because I haven’t played it in a long time, but just look for what I’m talking about. Should be somewhere toward the top of the graphics options if I recall correctly.

Well it was an issue with retail for a while sometime around BFA or SL. I think the classic client was branched off the BFA client(could be wrong), so it would make sense for them to share some quirks.

Either way, glad it worked.

Disregard, Issue has come back again :frowning:

Going to try changing from CMAA to FXAA and see if that provides a long term resolution.

Are you seeing it on other assets at all like whole trees suddenly flashing back? Or is it only the water along shorelines? The bug I’m thinking of was on all sorts of random assets, so the common fixes for it might not fix your problem.
