this is not an update. all this info was mentioned in a blue post after the demo.
Really curious how the server choices will look like. Will they be the same names as the original ones that came out during Vanilla with their correct PvE and PvP designations of is it going to be completely new. Appreciate the update, can’t wait for more developing details!
I do have a vague memory of my demon disappearing at the beginning of a new summon. More like… I remember sometimes being without a demon when I started a summon but got interrupted / aborted and couldn’t complete it.
The disorientation effect was definitely not in the original game. I clearly remember noting it as a major change when it went in… possibly around BC ? I don’t remember precisely when, though.
I’m more worried about the pet AI. In the original game putting the pet in aggressive mode meant that the pet attacked whatever was around it, instead of the current really annoying mechanic where the pet only attacks your most recent specific pettarget, then returns to its master after its target is defeated, even if you were still in combat with other nearby targets. Having to constantly order the pet to attack, over and over again, when engaged with multiple mobs in the modern game is extremely annoying.
Also, the original pet targeting mechanic was queued. If I had the pet attack A, B, then C in quick succession (before it got to A), the pet would of course attack C, but it would remember that I had also ordered it to attack B and A, and it would remember the (reverse) order. We had fine control over the pet’s attack queue.
There were a lot of complaints when Bliz changed the pet AI, which Bliz just promptly ignored, and the pet mechanics have been broken ever since. I do hope that they are able to restore the original mechanics in Classic. It would be nice if they fixed it in retail too. But for Classic… its a major game play element for pet classes.

I do very clearly remember those fast-running mobs in the original game. They ran very fast in the original game and would often pull other mobs with them when they came back. I think Blizzard is correct there… they were in the original game.

I am a 10+ year veteran of the game and personally I cannot wait for “Classic” to return to its roots. The social interaction between players will be a huge factor as the LFG/LFR tool has all but completely decimated the social aspect of this MMORPG. People don’t even need to communicate with each other, or use city chats or even talk to each other at all. It seems that everyone in BFA is playing their own solo RPG where they sometimes bumble other players who do not seem very cooperative and are highly toxic. Furthermore, I cannot wait to enjoy the punishing combat system and slow leveling and looting system. Bring back the grind to the game that made leveling such an achievement in and of itself where players spent literally hours on each level utilizing each new skill and perfecting their class. Furthermore I am incredibly happy that Blizzard has listened to their fan base and is making a amazing attempt to create a fully fledged Classic version!
Cheers!
This update made me super happy uwu
Please let Classic come out sooooooooon… This is what I’ve been waiting for… Awesome update I have faith.
Thanks Blizzard. Very cool!
what loot system are u referring to?
Playing this pristine back ported attempt of 2004 won’t be for everyone.
I will give it a go like most. Nothing to lose as retail has been dead to me and 6 million + others since cata.
Understand Blizzard that this is your last card to play in the deck, you better be holding a Royal Flush.
If for one second I smell the slightest whiff of sharding. unscripted spell batching, or a non Master looter algorithm (as it was back on the 1.12 client) the guns will be out.
I’ll see your hand soon enough…
Man I just wanna say how much I appreciate the amount of detail put into communication in these posts compared to what’s going on with retail. Stuff like this gives me a lot of hope for classic.
Amazing, all you sheep lapping the amount of no info up, everything that was broken in the demo was known day one. Not like we need to be told lol.
This is what I like to see. Basing the decisions on how it actually was rather than on (understandably) 13 year old faulty memories.
- This was a good post
- It had some interesting information
- Thanks for the update
First thing first, thanks for the update and information!
This post ease the worries and abandoned in the dark feeling for some of us and means lot! To show that the team is sticking to the current plan and schedule gives trust, comfort and hope. Looking forward to experience the unique journey again in this coming Summer.
This is great news, getting excited to play Classic.
While I am happy for the update… has there been any news on the touchy issues such as the report system, sharding, and loot trading?
I know those are not exactly fun things to talk about but it would be best if you let us know sooner then later.
Awesome stuff. Love to see updates on progress and stuff like this; how things are going, what’s currently being tackled, and what’s been completed. Looking forward to updates like these.
It’s true. For a fair amount of players this is people giving Acti-Blizzard ‘one more chance’ and I dare say it’s fair to say peoples tolerance has run thin after the dumpster fire that wa s WoD. The drought that was Legion. And the crap-shoot that is WoW we know today (BFA)
Hopefully they don’t screw this up. I’m sure they’ll do a good job though.
That was my thought!!!
