Classic turned out to be an absolute clown car

And I’m disappointed because of it.

Disclaimer though, I have invested around 50 days worth of playtime into Classic. Cleared MC many times, Ony as well. I got to about Rank 7 in PvP. The reasons for which I am disappointed actually have nothing to do with the game, but rather, the Classic community that ruined the game and will continue to ruin the game.

Let me explain.

1.) Over-glorification of loot.

Earning stuff is great, I remember a time in WoW where getting new gear meant something and how long you would have that piece of gear. However, this was only the case because the WoW community did not know any better. Everyone in Classic is running around with Epics, most raiders are gear capped.

Internet personalities glorified Classic for its overall loot scarcity, when in reality it’s in the same position as retail now and will continue to be. I would actually argue retail is more rewarding in 8.3 as mythic gear is slowly becoming more impactful.(plsremovecorruption.jpg)

2.) PvP min-maxing

The competitive vanilla formula of success is Pre Raid BiS -> Raid BiS -> take that awesome loot into PvP to show for your hard work.

PvP right now is just not working. There is no way to identify someones skill as a play besides having them be a known “good” player on your server from World PvP or something (because BGs are xrealm). However, due to how games have evolved over the last 15 years, hardcore players will continue to min max in AV. Even with the AV changes, yes, people will still queue AV.

3.) Elitist delusion

Why there are so many elitists on Classic I have no idea. This content was not meant to be difficult, and no you’re not better for smashing frostbolt with your BiS and getting 99+ parses. There is an extreme elitist delusion with the Classic playerbase and man does it ruin the game. 3v3 Arenas, High M+ keys and Mythic Raiding are competitive gameplay options for WoW, Classic cannot hold a candle to it. Thinking otherwise is just total delusion.

I did not want to cover stuff like “no content at all!” because there is actually content, you just have to make it for yourself as Classic is a traditional RPG.

No I don’t hate Vanilla, but man does its community make me never want to touch that game ever again.

Go tO ReTaiL

Yeah I did, and it is 100% better in every way. I can actually play the game competitively again.

Classic was great 15 years ago, but it’s not worth the effort today. What classic evangelists don’t realize is that blizzard implemented many classic aspects back into retail. LFR is worthless now since you can get much better gear from world quests. You do actually need to make friends and form groups in retail if you want to have success in mythics. Plus the word retail is just stupid, since they should call it current or modern.

i’d love you to remake this thread on the classic forums. :>

Newsflash: it wasn’t classic it was pre BC posing as classic.

One of the reasons people wanted a “hardcore” game like Classic so badly is because they lacked the chops to actually succeed on retail.

Being at the top on Retail takes skill. Vanilla just took time.

Ok

10 char limit

the meatwagon could’ve been a clown car… imagine fitting 10-20 people into one of those things and rolling around in one but thats a different story

Classic was neat but it was a massive snoozefest for me

No, it’s based on the patch before the pre TBC patch, that was 2.0 (2.01 was TBC launch) neither are involved with classic

That said, I’m no longer in classic. Between my friends leaving and the poor community, I decided my limited time was spent elsewhere. I would check out a TBC server, though and would live in a Wrath one forever

I got behind in classic and it became difficult to get groups for lower level instances. Its like a lot of people rushed to 60 just to do endgame stuff, I wanted to go at a slower pace. Maybe it was just because my guild got way to big and did not socialize as much as time went on.

Seems like a lot of that mentality is a generational thing as well. Lots of people who were too young to actually play Vanilla wanting to dunk on people who actually played the content when it was new.

Yeah, you’re playing classic! Awesome! So did we.

Glad people are having fun with it, but the way some people act about it is cringe inducing to say the least.

Guilds form cliques of players with similar skills and interests. Sometimes that works well for everyone, but sometimes only for those cliques.

I mean, most of us knew this would happen.

This is why I am laughing, people let streamers hype up classic. The streamers at least got money from classic. They won at the end of the day.

That would get ruined quickly too for most of the same reasons.

I don’t believe you played Vanilla, starting in 2004, then raided back then:

It was EXACTLY like that.

My holy priest was behind, since I could not raid on my work schedule; I felt bad about this. Even so, when my guild was all decked out in BWL-Plus gear, she did manage to go with some people’s alts on the weekends and do MC. She was completely geared in Prophesy pretty fast, also getting Benediction (boy, am I glad she saved THAT in the bank  ) Even the alts, or assisting characters, already had all the stuff mostly so she got every prophesy piece by default.

So even my priest was covered in Epics back then, who could barely raid.

But back then, people thought you were. There was lots of Elitism, back in Vanilla.

There were MANY reasons why I said people would not like playing Vanilla again, yours were among them.

You could tell if you read the classic gd forum before it came out their was gonna be a lot of elitism. There is an arrogance with some of those folks that is to say the least offensive.

That said I still see plenty of people over there on the rare occasions I venture on my classic characters. I have fun when I do play them but I’m mostly just do my own thing and keep to myself.

I met a lot of nice people playing classic. I also met obnoxious ones.

From reading the classic forums, you’d think there was nobody but the latter.

The toxicity of the Classic forums makes the Retail forums look like honey on a bun…

So it is like the old days. We just need Tseric back.

i refused to play classic for the same reason i don’t bother chasing ranks in dota. in dota, 90% of your progression in ranks basically comes down to how much you tryhard and pick meta heros and buy meta items. in wow classic, everyone is going to min max on a tryhard spec 20 years after the whole game has been theorycrafted and figured out for them. it’s just not the same as doing it back before the days of icyveins and simcraft (i was in a guild that broke on twin emps). being in a nefarian guild just wouldn’t mean anything today.

Classic is and always was about the leveling experience. Good endgame didn’t start until BC.
