Today I completed the weekly classic timewalking on my warrior - but instead of the cache I expected, it gave me an item. Toons that completed the quest earlier this week received a Cache of Nerubian treasures. I checked the quest on toons that have not completed the quest and it shows that they will be getting an item rather than the cache. While I can appreciate the streamlining and getting to find out what I’ll earn before I wait in a queue, I don’t believe this is intended behavior.
EDIT: my partner has confirmed that this is happening to them as well.

Same. Quest rewards says it is going to give me a shield on my shaman. Stayed the same regardless if of how I spec’d.
Same. I did the quest on my shaman and priest earlier in the week and both got the chest. Now, doing it on my rogue it’s telling me straight out that she’s getting a trinket. Granted - the trinket is a big upgrade and it’s giving me reason to do the quest, but still probably not intended.
Seeing this too; is it supposed to be a preview of what I will be winning from the box? That could be good or bad I guess.
I definitely prefer seeing an item instead of a box for alts for these TWing heroic raid rewards so I know if it is worth it to do the 5x TWing dungeons on that alt or not. The thing I don’t like though is it seems to generate the reward based on the spec they were in and if you weren’t in the spec that you wanted then you’re SOL because it won’t change.
EDIT: Apparently it does change if you change loot spec, just might not show visually unless you relog.
My main is showing my reward will be something I already have. I hope this is not how the timewalking will now be, at least it felt before I had a shot at the one or two items I still needed.

The positive is I can see what I’m getting without wasting the time on a dead slot.
The negative is I do enjoy the surprise and the dopamine hit from not knowing what I might be getting in the mystery box.
What makes me think it is a bug is that changing spec does not change the reward. IIRC the mystery box loot isn’t generated until the moment you hand in the quest and the box enters your inventory.
My quest was originally reading as a Nerubian Cache and then upon completion showed as an item which I did not need. At least with the Cache there was some possible variance unless it was a predetermined reward as it appears to be so with the given item…
