Classic SoD Lore Compilation

I haven’t seen anyone here on the forums make a thread about it, but Classic SoD has a lot of new lore. I wanted to make a thread to compile it all. Feel free to add any examples you find.

Credit to one of my Twitter friends for bringing a lot of this to my attention.

The Tauren Rogue Boarten Shadetotem, who Thunder Bluff Guards tell you claims he was there the whole time, shows up in Classic SoD and gives Tauren Shamans quests to gain dual-wielding and Lava Lash.

Comprehension charms, which are used by mages to unlock scrolls, can be earned by tearning in books you find throughout the world. Some of them reference TCG characters, like Ta’zo the troll mage or Rumi, the Gnome mage. One references Nar’thalas.

Priests of each race have a quest to meet a supplicant from another race on their faction who wants to convert to their race’s religion. You see a human worshipping Elune, a Night Elf turning to the Light, a Troll meditating on “undeath,” and a Forsaken trying to bargain with a Loa. These are part of the “Sharing the Faith quests.”

There’s also a new questline to create Void-infused armaments.

You find a mysterious entity that is implied to be Xala’tath.

You can also find a shard of Light, a white crystal, which one Tauren believes may have been a tear shed by An’she.

How is it that all the new little lore tidbits that have been shown off in SoD have been so sick.

Like, reintroducing TCG or future characters (like the Tauren rogue in Thunderbluff) into the classic world is such a cool and interesting way of going about something like this.

So much of this stuff is just cool little stuff idk.
It’s nice to see some much needed RPG flavor.

This kind of is Classic+ in a way isn’t it?

I’ve basically filed Classic as its own timeline at this point, where things are mostly the same, but not always.

They confirmed that it isn’t an alternative timeline:

Continuing the discussion from WoW Community Council Live Chat - December 8:

According to a bluepost it’s vaguely canonical.

It’s giving more background to the world, and it was designed not to tread on the toes of anything pre-established.

Hellscream’s ghost will be a boss in the new dungeon.

Yes!! We need more of this! I’ve been getting back into classic WoW lore and so far the additions I’ve seen have stayed within the spirit of the original worldbuilding.

But generally I wanna see more “classic era” lore discussions!

It is!! I just really hope they take it slow and don’t mess it up!
