What is the best source for classic WoW(vanilla) server population status, active players of course and ratios?
Honestly, you will find whatever metric you are looking for. Census has some really bad confirmation bias.
best bet is to make a level 1 on the server and check for yourself.
Out of curiosity I checked 3 different websites.
1 said my realm is dead.
1 got the Ratio really wrong
The other doesn’t even recognize my realm exists.
i have a level 60 on both horde and alliance on mankrik and whitemane. theres been an influx of players to classic era i would rank these 4 populations like this:
mankrik allince
whitemane horde
whitemane alliance
mankrik horde
atiesh cluster
grobb
bloodsail buccaneers also has very many hardcore players on it atm

The “BEST” source, would be these very forums
East Coast PvP2, (Herod et al.) is very dead, less than 10 players total, on both sides at any given time (the server cluster I play on)
East Coast PvP1, (Netherwind et al.) much more active than 2
West Coast PvP, (Whitemane et al.) very active, 5:30 am 45 allies/ 38Horde, later in the day, more than 50 players each side, seems pretty consistent and growing.
