Classic Razorge vs Vanilla Razorgore

Pretty much any 360 degree aoe from bosses in classic is a frontal cone, not an aoe.

Here is a clip of Razorgore casting his fireball volley from a raid in classic last night.

There were players in line of sight, you can see some of the healers and caster weapons on the bottom of the screen to the left.

Here is a clip of my guild killing the same boss back in 2005.

The counterspell from Shaz in MC seems to be the same, possibly the shadow bolt volleys nef casts during phase 1 of his fight as well.

Is this something that was changed on aoe abilities in later patches of the game, some side effect of using the legion base or just a bug?

to all the people saying BWL wasnt nerfed, heres proof of changes that make the fight easier.

Hmmm, interesting…

Intresting, could be a graphical glitch maybe?

how is it a graphical glitch when raid members dont take damage from behind the boss, but they did in vanilla?

I was surprised to see no one in our guild LOSing him last night and no one getting hit by fireballs.

Blizzard plz fix your raid

Our healers were sitting on a stupid amount of mana, we literally could have sat on the boss the whole time.

We’re better now, better geared, more knowledgeable, not playing on potatoes and not risking a DC if the phone rings. Get over it.

Looking at your videos, the breath was obviously a frontal cone ability but the fireball mechanic actually comes before the breath on the vanilla video and your players were all los behind a wall at that time on the classic fight. On the vanilla clip you guys were just standing out in the open.

Im thinking you didnt see the fireballs because there werent anyone it was able to hit due to the los…i mean isn’t that the whole reason you are hiding behind the wall in the first place???

This isn’t even the worst bug, my guild wiped on him due to some really bad orb clicking and when we came back in he was dead… gate open and all

have you actually thought about your argument?

“hey we are better now, that fact the fights dont work like they did in vanilla and are actually easier because of it doesnt matter”

Thinking is overrated for some people.

They do love to think they are better now tho (flash news: they’re not)

As I said in the post, there are 4-5 healers in LOS of the boss at the very least, you can see their weapons peaking into view on the bottom left of the screen in teh classic video. There is also several pov clips from ranges clearly in LOS that I can’t link on here because they are on twitch.

What did everyone get hit with at the very end? Just regular cleave damage?

When we look back on this game it wont be referred to as “classic” but “neutered”.

I honestly wish we were playing the 1.11 version of this game. The game is light years easier now than it was then and I don’t believe I am a better player now than I was then. We have a ton more resources on strategy (guilds horded strats 15 years ago, so information was not readily available). We have a ton better gear itemization now than we had in Vanilla at this stage in the game. 1.12 introduced a massive content nerf that just about all of you “we are better now” proofers seem to completely ignore.

Straight up. I played then. I play now. The overall skill is similar between the two guilds. From tanking coordination, to heals, to players ability to DPS. The biggest difference is the difference between 1.11 and 1.12.

yes, the two half circles that flash around the characters is the cleave. it chains.

And this is where you’re incorrect.
-People are properly geared. This alone makes a huge amount fo difference.one of our mages reckons he would lose 200+ spellpower if he followed classic guides on leveling.
-Debuff limit is the same in 1.11 vs 1.12 bet theres no serpent stings, rends, lock dots going up now though.
-Tank threat is monstrously different and is the biggest game changer. You might have been able to pull 300dps back then thanks to tank threat, but now you can literally pull 3x that.

Things have changed, you either change with them or you fall behind. I will admit that volley is bugged and needs to be fixed though.

All of this is lovely. Except that my guild in Vanilla was properly geared. My guild in Vanilla did limit debuff slot usage (my current guild blasts the content hard enough we haven’t had to bother beyond the obvious ones…like don’t throw rupture up and other stuff like that…haven’t bothered with weapon procs etc). Finally (and most importantly), my Vanilla guild’s MT had a Thunderfury. Guess how easy it is to pull threat off a MT with Thunderfury…

Straight up. I played then. I play now. The content is easier. I am not better geared now than I was then. I, in fact, use a significantly worse spec now than I did then from a pure dps standpoint (ever heard of 8/21/22? no? neither has anyone else). We ran out of time raiding last night, but ended 7/8 in BWL and will clear Nef tonight with zero issues. This isn’t a hardcore guild, but we were prepared and pretty well geared. That’s all it takes now. It isn’t “more skill”.
