I listened to another insightful TheoryWiseOS video about classic+. He has very good points about how classic could very well likely just turn into another version of retail with the game philosophy they have now. One take away I have from it, is how will new content be integrated? Will it coexist with the old content? (He gives the example how molten core gear can stay relevant through to Naxx). Or will it immediately make the old content non-relevant? Also with gear upgrades, Will the numbers reach outrageous numbers? Just wanted to hear other peoples thoughts and opinions on what they can do to combat these issues theyâll run into. Peace
People need to realize that the game is vertical in nature. Each new tier is a fun reset of (some) gear.
New leveling content in vanilla wonât affect the experience too much. It will simply help smooth out some of the rougher parts of leveling.
New dungeons at max level, similarly, shouldnât fundamentally change any of the current gameplay loops. It might just be nice to have new/different ways to farm pre-raid bis gear AND certain important items like righteous orbs/dark runes.
New raids is where it becomes difficult. With Naxx gear, players are incredibly powerful. You could literally clear TBC Kara in Naxx gear. With that in mind, I donât think there is a good solution for how to add new raid tiers.
The devs realized this in SoD. Thus why they attempted the âborrowed powerâ system with Sanctified gear. They were hoping to develop a system that allowed players to progress their in-raid gear, without it completely invalidating their out-of-raid experiences.
Iâd say the conclusions were mixed. Most people did not like the sanctified system, however people did generally seem to like the Naxx phase. SoâŚidk.
I think forcing classic+ into purely vanilla, will always be a bad idea. Classic+ should be the improvement of the first 3 versions of the game (Vanilla/TBC/WoTLK), with the option for players to remain in era versions of each expansion.
Look at seasonal servers and be enlightened.
I think those are some good ideas! I personally never played SoD, I missed out. Not a serious wow player but Iâve always watched content and read the books as a kid. First time seriously getting into classic. But I too would not be a fan of any borrowed power kind of system. I like the bare bones, the gear/power you got is what you have. Thanks for your input!
Of course! At the end of the day, I just hope Blizzard realizes, every action has a consequence. Everything, even things like chronoboons, have a downside. With that in mind, you need to be very mindful of how a change will affect gameplay.
I donât even mind them making big changes, but please be transparent with what problems theyâre fixing.
Are you referring to SoD? I personally donât think thatâs a good example. I remember seeing a post from Aggrend explaining they purposefully went overboard on SoD so they can see what players donât like. I am really hoping they learned from SoD but who knows.
Right now and potentially for 5ever, seasonal is classic with pluses.
It may be all there is since real development has been reserved for the main/current/retail game.
Iâve no issue with folk asking for more but realistically it appears that seasons are where the plus comes to classic.
I see your point. Their game philosophy is more seasonal now a days. Call me crazy but I have faith they will do their best to fix the mistakes theyâve made from past versions.
Honestly?
I would jump at the chance to play in the vanilla/classic world with things like plainsrunning or the bg in Azshara that were dropped before release or the Eranikus quest completed or a number of pluses that would build on the existing world. Unlike, to me, adding races or raids/dungeons weâve already seen in retail.
But thatâs never gonna happen.
Thereâs a lot they could do in a vanilla+ that is not new raids. New zones, new stories, new BGs, new lore - finishing unfinished stories like the gryphons in hinterlands and lots more. Iâd be happy with that - but most are more interested in new raids.
The problem with horizontal progression is that it has a limit. Gear more powerful than T3 gets over the top. There are a few ways to fix this⌠downgrade existing loot from t1 and t2 to t0.5 and t1, make aq40 t1.5 and naxx t2 allowing new raids for t2.5 and t3 (youâd still hit a limit eventually without other systems). The other way is to do what OSRS done and make vanilla+ more sandbox with effectively an endless grind. The other option when a limit has been reached is to allow vertical progression with an expansion on azeroth using unused areas - I donât want this but there may be no other choices.
Some retail that could drop in real easy.
vault. put a graphic on a wall in a cityâŚroll for items.
We already have knock off mythic dungeon models to work from in now mop series, so there are its slots. Some rework for pvp slots since no rated arena poitns/conquest/etc to work that bar.
Not getting boss dropsâŚit may show up there.
Given the questions asked in the survey a while back, it really does feel like theyâre considering a version of classic that includes modern systems found on retail that are available in just about every MMO out there these days.
Where progression is concerned, however, we donât necessarily have to see it locked to gear. I remember way back in the days of Vanilla, a topic that got discussed at times was, âPrestige,â classes. The concept was that at max level and after completing certain questlines, a character could change to a prestige class. Mage â Archmage, Priest â High Priest/High Priestess, Warrior-> Knight/Blademaster, etc⌠There were all sorts of discussion about adding race/factional identity to prestige classes as well (maybe a Forsaken Warlockâs prestige class is Necromancer, but an Orcâs is a Dark Shaman, and you replace the minions accordingly).
Its an idea that could be toyed with again, though how itâd be balanced is a whole other headache.
If they are going to make many new raids, best idea is make all vanilla traditional raids 10 people, release all of them at start, and make them drop a currency (e. g. tarnished undermine reals in sod) to buy starting gear of âtier 1â power level. Making all older raids drop the same starting tier gear will give blizzard much more space to design new tiers. We have already cleared all of those raids many times, and blizzard shouldnât focus on them too much (but ofc completely removing them is also not a good option). So, making them simple 10ppl raids for starting gear is good idea.
Yes and they could begin fixing/adjusting a lot of things, and simply.
- some simple nerfs and buffs to start to rebalance things esp warriors and shamans
- make certain instant, powerful, spammable actions actually cost a reasonable amount and not almost nothing eg purges, mana drains, auto attacks.
- add a few flights paths particularly in some of the bigger zones
