I’m thinking of building a tiny portable PC. I’m wondering if even need a video card at all. I won’t be gaming on it, but I wouldn’t mind playing some Classic here and there. Has anyone tried playing with on-board intel graphics only?
I mostly play on a puny laptop with Intel Pentium Gold 4415Y. I have to bump graphics down to 2 or 3 to maintain a smooth experience but it’s perfectly functional and I’ve never had any complaints. It manages retail pretty well, too.
If anything, the low graphics and occasional lag in high traffic areas just captures that charming early 2000s feel.
Yeah, you’ll definitely want to run it on lower settings. GPUs are pretty pricey these days. If you’re not fussy about how it looks, I say have at it!
I have a laptop with Ryzen 2500u with integrated Vega 8 graphics. I get 60fps at 5 or 6 can’t remember. You can use comparison sites and use my experience as a reference.
A Ryzen desktop chip (think it’s 3200g?) with integrated graphics will be more powerful than my laptop.
Thanks for all the responses. I def don’t care about graphics settings, just interested in mining or things of that nature to kill time when I am away from home base. Appreciate all the input.
Man, I bet it will run fine.
In 2012 I played MoP on a laptop (out of need at the time) that had one of those built on die chipsets and it worked ok.
I wasn’t able to do full graphics setting but it did handle moderate settings well and played just fine.
Considering that Classic has less demand due to far lower polygon counts, less AE spells and way less particles (effects), I think it should actually run really good on the new stuff they have now.
